Here is an article my family forwarded to me. Looks like a few parts/pieces in the background. I wonder if the Goodguys vultures have decended yet?

"There's an imminent public health risk those vehicles pose. Some of them still have mercury switches in them. Then there's all the oils, the various fluids, and it poses an imminent hazard to the watershed out there."

    WTF?

"This isn't unique to North River," Hazen says. "It's a statewide problem. There's a lot of unlicensed, illegal wrecking yards out there."

    hmmmmm...

She's worried about people taking advantage of her, and I don't blame her. The county and that jerk Hazen are taking her for a ride. I suspect she's in the middle of a situation where the cars will cost a fortune to get rid of, and the cars will cost a fortune to keep with all the fines they are threatening her with. She's in a tough spot. She could probably do okay with selling some of the stuff, but with that time limit, she can't do much.

I hate it when people are completely unreasonable and they look at you with a blank stare and mouth agape, like you've got the problem. Give the old lady a break, for crying out loud.

So the cars we drive every day (with fluids in them) over bridges across creeks and rivers do not pose a problem to the water tables?

I think Mr. Hazzen and his office need an "intervention", show him that his at***ude is a health hazzard.

I still can't figure out where a "mercury switch" would be on an old car.

Just because it's in a Mercury CAR, doesn't mean it has Hg in it.

A underhood light ( that comes on when it is lifted ) can be a mercury switch....

Just gave David Wilkins an e-mail requesting a way to contact Bob Hazen, to discuss this situation, if you catch my drift...

This is such ****!!! where do they get off with **** like this??? Number one, it's in the country, so, it's not like it's on Wall Street or something!!! Number two, she's planted trees and shrubs so these vehicles can't be seen, and yet, the county still has to complain about it!!!

I'd bet you $100 that if this Bob guy was somebody who liked old cars, he wouldn't have that sort of deadline on it, if he even had one on it!!! But he probably drives a little GEO Metro to work...

    Friggin' *****s!!!

    Ahhhhhh!!!

    TTYL.

    Later, peace...

Sounds like to me instead of whinning about it someone close to her need to get their ***'s out there and buy some cars off the ol'gal, before they are crushed and she gets fined!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Heck, the guy is supposed to be the Pacific County codes enforcement officer, see if the county has a website and write this clown directly. Would love to know what codes they p***ed to try to screw this woman with.

Then again you read and she thinks someone would pay a fortune for Studebaker gl***... isn't the back window in a starlight all flat gl*** you can have made for about $50 a section?

    I see a '55-'56 Chevy 4dr body in the one picture -

Groundwater contamination is a serious proplem and ignoring it is irresponsible, like 5 years ago when my dad insisted that global warming was something Al Gore made up. but I don't necessarily agree with ganging up on an old lady either.

Tim, so you're sayin get rid of every old boneyard? I think the big manufacturing plants produce a lot more pollutants than a few old cars out in the middle of nowhere. How long have they been telling this lady to clean up her place?

 i'm SOOOO PIST!!! this Hazen guys sounds totaly unreasonable. what is this **** REALY hurting?? what a crock. he is bullying this old lady. i wish there was SOMETHING i could do to help. i'd go out there and help clean the place up and find good homes for the good stuff and s**** the s**** metal if i did'nt have to stay here and work to pay the bills. if i'd known about this earlier this summer when i was laid off i might have been able to spend some time out there to help. i just HATE to see this stuff get crushed and i REALY HATE to see some one taken advantage of.

someone should contact SEMA. we should ALL contact SEMA and see if they can help in some way. is'nt that what they are around for, basicly?? 150 cars is alot for anyone to move in such a short time, let alone an 80 some year old woman with a farm to run. at least give her a year.

she prolly could make some pretty good money if she had the time to sell the parts on Ebay and what not. it would be a full time job pulling, packing, listing and shipping parts. selling some whole vehicles would speed things up a bit.

it's her stuff she ought to be able to sell it on Ebay without getting into any trouble. it's a PERSONAL COLLECTION not a salvage yard. the next thing they will do is stop anyone from having ANY inoperable vehicles on their own damn property. that means NO PROJECT OR PARTS VEHICLE AT ALL!!!!

****IN DO GOODERS!!!!  i'm so mad i could kick someones *** right now...

there has to be something we can do to help. we need to save the cars AND keep this old lady from being ripped off.

i like (not realy) how this ***hole's solution to the "problem" was to get ahold of an auto crushing company. NICE!!!

  22. Anyone out there might look to see if someone is looking to redevelop the area. To me this smells like a scam for the county to confi****e the land in lieu of the fines by creating an impossible situation. I mean a week's worth of $1000-a-day per car fines aught to more than exceed the value of the land.

    my thoughts exactly.

around here they can't do a damn thing about cars, junk, s****, equipment or anything when it is in an area zoned for agricultural (farm land). you should see the old farm equipment "junk yard" across the street from me. it does'nt bother me but someone *****ed one time and the county TRIED to make him clean it up. empty threats realy and he knew it. he did'nt clean up a thing (god for him) and told them to take a flying leap. the real kicker is that he had already started cleaning it up when they started making threats. he stopped hauling stuf to the s**** yard as soon as that happened :D . idiots.

the same thing out at my parents house. when i lived at home i had several old cars layin around, so did dad and my brothes. the county *****ed and made threats. my dad told them to go to hell cause the area was zoned for agricultural use and he KNEW they could'nt do anything about the cars. they shut up and went away and we kept all our "junk" :D . anyone know the laws in that state/area???

You could buy the whole place for one, if not two days fines! Very depressed area, used to be loggers but the Squirrel Huggers killed that. Same with the fishing. The county grabs all the money they can. They send a lot of welfare checks down there, if they can git rit of the people, they think there savin money ....*******S!!!!!..............OLD(and mad)BEET
