I've got a 47 Ford pickup and I wanted to put a 1940 front clip on it. Anyone had any experience with this sweap. Thanks
I read that Ford just updated the front sheet metal after WWII to get "New" cars and trucks into production as fast as possible for the civilian market,Pre war noses are supposed to be a "Bolt on" swap.
And the 47 nose started in 42 and was also used on military Fords. Some without the park lights in the fenders for the big trucks. It makes a lot of sense that the cab would be the same.
The sheet metal may bolt up but it won't look right. The rear of the front fenders need to be extended down to meet the running boards. The 40 & 41 cabs are factory channeled and sit just above the running boards. The 42-47 cabs sit higher, on the top of the frame, and there are several inches between the bottom of the cab to the running boards.
I have been told that 47 fenders are wider, so you have to use 40 running boards and rear fenders too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't let anybody lead you astray, this is not a bolt on deal. It can be done, but takes ALOT of work. You are better off looking for a '40-'41 cab and frame.
The frames are different. The '47 is a bit wider in the front. There will be some modification needed to mount the front of the '40 fenders to the '47 frame. '42 through '47 were wider in all areas except the cab. A '40-'41 box is only 46 1/2" wide vs. 48". Lust 4 Rust is correct more things need to change beside the nose.
Thanks for the input. It appears the that the easy fix is to extend the rear cutout portion of the fenders down to match the bolt on area of the running boards and to add 2 to 3 inches to to the running boards to get the front wheels in the right places.
