hey I got out to a relatives to pick up some stuff and snapped a few pics of this 39' drop top- story is my grandpa got it in 58' in a trade, then one of the water pumps went out and someone broke a bolt off in block. It's been sitting ever since. It's got hollywood one-bar flippers, skirts, and plymouth ripple bumpers. The old guy(a bodyman) my grandpa bought it from is still around and Un-chopped it and got the missing top bows,so I ***ume it ran a carson top at one time.
Yes, WOW is right. But "39' drop top-"???????????? Lucky many of us know by the pictures that it's a 1939 Ford deluxe convertable. There was a recent thread and brand new old rules telling members to explain what the hell cars or trucks they are yappin about. It ain't hard to say 39 Ford convetible! Now go sit in the corner for a time out!
yes, it sat in his garage for many years when I was younger, then his brother bought it for a retirement project, it never got worked on, just moved around. It has always been stored inside.
A close friend has had a 39/40? Mercury convertible in his large bulding probably as long. I've had my 39 Ford coupe in my garage since mid 70's. **** happens and cars get put aside or forgotten. There must be thousands of these barn/garage/trailer finds just sitting and waiting. This 39 Ford convertible may never get finished . Dreams happen, plans are made, life goes on.
I may be a new guy but sometimes us new guys have to keep you old guys in line. Think about it, is it so much bother to type 1939 Ford convertible???????? Or maybe 1940 Chevy coupe with the top cut off. Every member doesn't recognize a few pictures as in the first posts. I was only trying to remind others that another old guy spent a lot of time trying to get members to follow a few simple rules. Compared to leadsled I'm an old guy just trying to help a new guy do what's right.
Soooo, is your Grandpas brother ever going to do anything with this? A chance that you may be able to get a hold of it?
"I say eether and you say iither, I say tomaato and you say tomahto, eether, iither, tomaato, tomahto, let's call the whole thing off !" That old song will really confuse the guys under 50. So what is the plan now for the old drop top ? Are you guys going to finally dig it out and do something with her, or is it going back in storage for another 50 years ? Inquiring minds want to know. Don
yes, folks I'm lazy and did not want to type out 1939 Ford Deluxe Convertible, also I am to be the next owner of this fine 1939 Ford Deluxe Convertible, my grandpa's brother died two years ago he left it to his son who has no interest in it, so I will end up with it when my grandpa is ready to give up his 27' Kenworth show truck, in a trade for the car. long stupid story and I cant get the last 2 pics to upload, they **** anyway its stuffed in a semi-trailer. There is also 2 columbia 2-speed rear ends that come with the car it supposedly has a later-model flatty and zephyr gears in the trans. My grandpa is 75 and really doesn't remember alot about it, or doesn't care to.
Sweet find. Get it running and drive it as is! Did your Grandpa get his golf game in 54 years ago before the water pump went?
yes that's cool...let us know when you get it... oh...and by the way - I know of a virgin that likes bench seats and a good floor shift stick....can show pics later...after we take a drive....
