Looks like a great selection of cars in the Top 5, I'm sure there was some nice cars that didn't make the final 5. Anybody know how many were in the running, and did they do the drive and dragracing again this year??? Alan

28 cars in the running. Goolsby's roadster broke at Muncie Dragway. Around 200 mile round trip. Big shout out to Hot Rod Garage... wished the 32 would have been in top 5! Awesome guys!

I am head over heals in love with that car! I hope to see it sometime soon in person.

(Well I see it didn't attach the picture, but I am referring to the black coupe with the Olds motor.)

I personally don't see how 2 unfinished cars made it into the Top 5...

I'm also curious that the Hot Rod Garage entry beat the **** outta their 3w at the drags 'For Style Points' when some of the cars in the Top 5 just eased it down the strip...thought a Hot Rod of the Year was supposed to be Hot...yeah, I'm biased...

Just seems that Hot Rod Of the Year is becoming another rich-mans event...this is just my opinion...your mileage may vary.

X2, could not have said it better.

Kudos though to the roadster who won, at least they say he did drive it to Indy from the west coast....

Cool, I've liked that little roadster since it showed up at GNRS in the running for the AMBR.
That the owner doesn't bat an eye at driving the car cross country to the event says loads. And even with the high ticket items on it it looks all hotrod to me and doesn't carry that "street rod" vibe. Black fricking primer or bare metal doesn't make a hot rod.

  21. The winner was very cool, BUT...

I couldn't stop staring at that black 3-window. I made several trips back to the car just to get another look.

That is the one I'd take home to mama. Hands down.

HRG built that car for free then? It is all expensive, you know that. Even the guy that does it himself still has enough money in the car to choke the average hamber.

This was the best Top 5 yet, I think and anyone of those 5 could have won the award and deserved it.....I was pulling for Hank's sedan. I will bet he is the only one that will continue to drive the snot out of his car.

If this was another site I would "like" your post.....Driving "easy" down the dragstrip should get negative points..........That's why its called a "HOTROD".......and the naked metal thing is the new 'rust'ina.

The majority of the car in contention were bas *** and deserve the ***le. That group of cars, along with Brizio's group, really made the event something special as far as the quality of cars in attendance goes.

I hate to be the guy who says it is getting very political, but it is. Usually I could always say, well the car that should have won did. Now days, they are kind of hit and miss and unfortunately I can see the backstory that lead to the selection. Another problem is, this award is going through the same transition problem Street Machine of the Year faced a couple of years ago. Where do we draw the line between cream puff and just a damn nice hot rod? I don't care what any of these guys spent on their cars. It is expensive anyway you cut it. It's all about the look and how they use it. In a fantasy land, there would be a kiosk at Goodguy's events were they presented their of the year awards. You could go up, input your member number, and then enter five registration numbers for your top five. On Saturday afternoon at 3pm voting is over, the computer tallies up the votes, and you would have the top five cars and the winner with the most votes. Only members can vote and they can only vote once. Nevertheless, someone would still come up with a reason to ***** about that setup too. ****...is there anything that could make everyone happy? I highly doubt it.

  27. Basic Criteria: It makes noise; it’s regularly street driven, has a mean at***ude and screams the words “Hot Rod.” No cream puffs! (from Goodguy's criteria).
I agree, a tough selection process this year. How many of the cars had their tralers parked within 25 miles of the speedway? (nothing new).
"beat the **** out of it" ....I missed that, but I think 7.45 was the quickest p***. No time slips were printed, but the score board did light up the E.T.'s

The DRAG portion seems pretty pointless to me. What cons***utes style in this segment of the compe***ion?

They want you to at least attempt to drive it hard. I had attended the past three years and saw several cars not even doing a burnout:eek: not even a dry hop. Really?!?! You want to be Hot Rod of the Year and can't (won't) do a burnout? .
