Ok guys I need your help on this one.
I have a 50 Lincoln, I acquired a 460/C6 combo to stuff in it. I stuck in a new cam, not radical but way better than stock, new intake, carb, the basics. I also had the heads cleaned up and rebuilt due to 2 stuck valves in #3. I bought a new aluminum 3 core radiator (large core) with 2 pullers with a shrowd, the trans cooler is frame mount, didnt want it going through the radiator. I also installed an aluminum, high flow water pump. So everything was going good for about 5 months and then the motor started getting hotter and hotter, (up to 230) which is where it wants to stumble. Now to my own troubleshooting: I rebuilt the trans because it just needed to be done. I have checked for oil in the water and water in the oil and there is none, everything is clean. Then I checked the compresion and it is as follows: drivers side: (5 through 8) 175. P***enger side: (1 through 4), 1: 165, 2: 155, 3: 155, 4: 155. I did not do a lead down test because I ran out of time but with this info, what do you all think. I am hoping for a head gasket but it doesnt look like it so far, do you think its a cracked head? I really dont need that right now. Any info would be greatly appriciated.

No mention of the thermostat, did you check that? A cracked head would more than likely leak some coolant into the oil. Water Pump? check the simple things first before ***uming the worst.

The thermostat is brand new and a 195. I replaced the other one which was only 5 months old when the overheating started happening. As for the water pump I replace the 5 month old stock water pump with a high volume aluminum pump still no good.

It could any number of things. Since the T-stat is ok, check for a collapsing or delaminating radiator hose. Restricted exhaust, a timing chain that has skipped a tooth, and incorrect ignition advance(not just initial advance) are other possibilities. If the damper slips(or if you used the wrong timing pointer) that can cause you to set the timing wrong, so confirm that TDC on the damper is actually TDC.

When does it overheat? when standing still or crawling through town, or even at highway or open road driving. My 50 merc has a 460 c6 and the electric fan does not move air like a real 460 type fan and move the air out of the engine compartment adequately IMO.

Desotot has a good point, my 460 has a smaller than stock fan and runs hot in slow traffic.
