If she were nearby I'd be more than willing to lend a helping hand and also rummage through what's on the land. Who ever's local should organize a help day and just go down there with a bunch of guys, trucks, and trailors and do her a favor. :D

"Look at this," she says, leaning on a 1948 Studebaker Commander Starlight Coupe, with a perfectly intact, four-piece rear window. "I don't want to have this crushed. Someone would pay big money for this glass alone."

Not sure what her idea of "big money" is but that isn't a good sign for us cheapos. Thats the problem with those people. They always think they can milk that stuff out.

I love how the gov makes blanket statements. "They pose a imminent public health risk." - if they're not leaking fluid, then whats the health risk. If somebody got hurt playing on the vehicle in the middle of the property, they shouldn't be there in the first place. But I guess that kind of stuff is alright if you buy a permit.

And I'm sure her comment of the Commander back window was just to make a point. It seems to me, that its a good chance she's not necessarily a price gouger. I think she just said that to convey the view that those things do hold value to people out and aren't just junk.

Some fucking developer who's got the local fucking Government in their pocket wants to steal her property to develop it and this is the way they plan on doing it.
They'll fine her into bankruptcy and get the land at a semi-secret auction or the fucking government has already decided they get to develop it anyway.

There's no way she can clean all that up in five weeks if she hasn't got the haulers moving it by now so they pretty much have her in the poor house already.
Even if she does move the vehicles out they'll have their "people" out doing dirt samples and fine her for whatever else they damn well please because the Government is just the biggest GANG in town and once they decide to fuck with someone that person is FUCKED!

    Don't get me started...

For one thing OIL COMES FROM THE EARTH so there is a reason it is there. Fuckin pollution nazis. sorry for the rant I'm having a bad day...

Either that or someone else who the county has sold a "liscense" to, stands to make a bundle "doing her a favor" by only charging a smaller fortune to remove them for her.
I bet you the favored "developer" also already owns all the "junk yards" and tow trucks in the area!

It's a good thing you guys don't have to use facts to come to a conclusion.

    "America...what a country."

With all of it's faults, it's the greatest country in the history of the world. And the really great thing is you are free to leave, anytime you want to.

They live on a farm. I'm sure they have a barn...probably a BIG one.

If I was that lazy assed son, I would fire up that homemade tow truck of dad's and haul ALL of those cars over to the barn and cram them in. If there wasn't enough room, I'd fire up the torches and cut them into pieces to get them in.

I mean, come on. There all all sorts of ways to deal with this situation.

I think there's definitely something fishy going on, the local GOV. is trying a fast one...but I think the ol' woman and the son are just lazy...or maybe just stirring the pot. Old women love DRAMA! I wonder who called the paper to do this story????? Hhhmmmmmmmm??

  13. There is another long post about this somewhere down the board.

It has the smell of a county land grab when you figure the time limit and potential fines involved. My question would be, was this always a zoning violation, and if the laws changed, how is this place not grandfathered in because it was already there?

  14. Lets thank the Supreme Court of Conn. For passing the Inement Domain law recently. It gives power to take up land for "any" gain whatsoever. so if your a pain in the butt of your local city/county/state Gov. Look out..the socialists can take it and build a "park" on it...or houses if the developer has "lobbied" his way into the local/county/state politicians pocket.

It's disgusting to see such a thing happen....

With this new law...why even invest/buy land...its not even yours anyways cause it can be taken away faster than it took to get it....

    ITS BS!

This is my favorite line in the article...
Who's saying its a wrecking yard...the inspector, to justify his reasoning to have it hauled away.... First it says it was her husbands collection...now its a wrecking yard...???? WTF!

This is the biggest line of BS I have ever heard.....Flexible w/ the Gov't?

Are you serious? What about the food we eat everyday...
I want to gag and throw up....this must be a text book line.

What is this Eminem Domain they're talking about?

Is it like some mansion for a rich white rapper?

  16. I don't really know if America is the greatest country in the world, but it's the greatest country that I am a citizen of… And being allowed to bitch about it is part of what makes it great. I often bitch about my cars, my kids and my god damn dog, doesn't mean that I don't love them. I'm sorry to have to take that side here, but I believe in PARTICIPATORY democracy and that includes criticizing the gov't. I guess I'm more of a fan of Thomas Jefferson that Richard Nixon in that respect. Sorry to disagree, Dan. I hope we're still friends.

Iminent Domain states that any county/ state/ country government can LEGALLY take your property if they feel they can "better" the place, this means, putting in strip malls, or parks, or whatever they feel "helps" the community...

Basically, it works like this, the government knocks on your door, leaving you a not saying they're going to take your property and pay YOU what it's valued at...

Many times, these estimates are low, in order to save the government, or developer money...

What the person whose land is beeing taken can do is, if they feel this estimate is to low, they can have it personally estimated, and go to court if the estimate is, I think, like, 10% greater than what the other estimate was, so, if you have a shop, and the developer has it estimated at $600,000, but then you have a personal estimate from another agency say it's worht $660,000 or more, it can go to court, and A.) You can keep your property if you win, or B.) They will pay you the $660,000...

It gets tricky, because, if you lose, you only get what they value it at, if they lose, they have to pay for your lawyer, and let you keep you property, or pay you the valued amount...

It's complicated crap, and nobody really likes to deal with it, half the politicians who passed this probably didn't even understand half the words in the whole bill!!!

Ah well, don't ya' love livin' in America!!!

Also, I have phone numbers to both Barbara Thompson, and Bob Hazen, PM me if you'd like to get in contact with either one...

    TTYL.

    Later, peace...

    Troy.

  18. Not to get radical or anything, but the Government doesnt care about us citizens. They only care about how they [the politicians] can benefit from thier decision making. Being a citizen sometimes feels like the guy in the back seat...your there but never noticed....and if you make yourself to be noticed, you either get dropped off or reprimanded for even saying so.

We are nothing like we were in the 40's.....Freedom in the minds of todays "American Sheep" is..."let me walk around w/ my head up my rear...and you [Government] do what you want, as long as Im not bothered....Ill pay, Ill give, Ill do...just leave me alone and let me live my life."

Im bitter at the Government, local/state and Judiciary because my buddy is getting hosed for having old cars like the old lady in the story....all the made up crap, lies and deciet within our beloved system to beat down ordinary citizens into submission is pathetic....

A 3 year court battle may come to an end here shortly....and some of his Constitutional rights may be stripped (as long as he lives where he is)...just because he is trying to stand up for what is right....those very things written on paper by our Fore-Fathers...

    Its pathetic.

I like that line. But back to the original subject, I'd bet a brand new $100 bill that if she put some visible effort into cleaning that up, (i.e. lining up the good salvageable stuff and getting rid of the shit that even she doesn't like to look at) they'd leave her alone, or at least give her some slack. Park the good ones behind the barn, or behind a treeline, where it can't be seen, scrap the rest out, it'd be fine. In Wisconsin, we have a law that protects collections of stuff like this. Says you can have as much shit as you want, as long as it's stored out of the view of the public. I met the guy who wrote that law back in the early 70's.

Some nosy neighbors don't want to look at her field full of old shit anymore. If the good stuff was behind a fence and the scrap was hauled off, no one would bitch about it. I'm going through the same shit with my place right now.

As far as that eminem domain shit goes, that's unconstitutional. Someone with a real liberal view on how development works wrote that shit up. If someone could take it to the supreme court...
