Event Coverage Rod Father Tour 2012....We drove over 2400 miles in the roadster

I didnt see much coverage on the Rod Father Tour here, so I thought Id share photos of our experience. For anyone that wasnt on the trip, I can begin to express how much fun and cool it was to travel across the country. Both Ashley and I feel very fortunate to have driven in what may be the last cross country drive with Andy Brizio.
Anyway, onto the photos and break down of our days. Friday morning, the 14<sup>th</sup>, we left our house in Michigan at 5:30am. It was about 48 degrees and raining, so I put the side curtains on the car..which proved to be very nice. We drove through about 4 ½ hrs of rain that morning.

I ran the car sort of hard..ran 75mph almost all the way and the only time the car was parked was for a quick fuel up. Well, about 80 miles from our destination that night (Kansas City), I heard a metallic/tinny sound from the left front corner. My first thought was that I had a tire getting ready to go, so I immediately pulled the car onto the shoulder. I was watching the tire and the car came to a stop, and just as it stopped, the left front wheel/tire lost some chamber. I knew it was either a wheel that came loose, or a wheel bearing. I popped the hubcap off, and saw that the dust cover was knocked off and there were some tapered rollers where they werent supposed to be. A call to AAA that night got us to Kansas City by 8pm. I called a friend back in KC, and he happened to have a pair of outer bearings (the left outer was what failed). By 11:30pm that night, the car was back together after having to cut and hammer the inner race off the spindle. Luckily, nothing was damaged.

Saturday the 15<sup>th</sup>, we ran down to Ottawa, KS for the Ol Marias River Run. 20 years ago, I first attended the show in a ½ scale 32 Ford Roadster (shriners car), so it was cool to return later in a real one. On Sunday the 16<sup>th</sup>, I pulled the front end back apart to inspect how everything was wearing. I had another race that did not look so good that I didnt see when it was apart on Friday night. Long story short, I called NAPA, and was surprised that they had a bearing and race set in stock. So but Sunday afternoon, the car was back together.

Monday the 17<sup>th</sup>, we hit the road headed for Lincoln, NE to meet up with the Rod Father Tour at Speedy Bills. We arrived up there around 9:30am. That was my second time in his museum, which is nothing short of amazing.

We left Speedy Bill’s after the lunch he put together for all of us, and headed east for Ankeny, IA.

After checking into our hotel, we headed over to see Dennis Albaugh’s place. Not only did we get to park on his golf course and see his collection of Chevrolets, he fed us a dinner that rivaled what you would get at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.

Tuesday morning, the 18<sup>th</sup>, it was about 37 degrees. I went out to start my car, and the battery didn’t have the reserve to do it. Luckily, Kirk came over and gave us a jump. After that, we got a jump pack from Roy for the mornings, and push started the car any other time. I ordered a new battery (AGM battery), and had it shipped to GodSpeed Rides. We hit the road headed for Madison, WI.

As we started to get into Madison, it started to pour…followed by some small hail.

After some breakfast at Heidts, we headed for the Roadster Shop. Their facility was nothing short of amazing, and those guys do some incredible work there as well. They also had a great lunch for us too.

We then left the Roadster Shop and headed for Billet Specialties….another cool facility.

Our last stop that day was dinner at Troy’s.

Thursday morning, the20th, we left Mateno headed toward Indy. We got our last push start and skipped the first stop so we could stop at Godspeed to swap the battery in the car. We caught back up with the tour at Gan***i.

The last stop on Thursday was the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum to get our registration for the Indy show, and to go through the museum. That totaled over 2100 miles for us to get from Michigan to Indy.

Wow! These are some of the best pictures, of the nicest cars, on one of the coolest road trips, that I have seen on the HAMB in quite a while. I envy you for being able to literally cruise with Andy Brizio. The Rod Father has been one of my heros for decades (going back to the "Instant T"). Andy was never afraid to take his cars on real runs and he is responsible for the feelings that I have about "Trailer Queens" I am sure that you all created a lifetime of memories on this road trip! Thanks for sharing...robber

Fantastic coverage of a great trip. Friends of mine are driving "the stretcher" tow rig. I keep getting updates via text and it sounds awesome! Though your pictures are much better. Hope this is not a "once in a lifetime" trip.
