If you're going to SEMA, spend a bunch of money on a pair of really comfortable shoes, and break them in before walking the convention center.
    Seriously.

Before the strip clubs, take a trip out to Hoover dam.

After the strip clubs, try one of the brothels outside of town.

A trip to the Valley of Fire, either around sunrise (yeah, right) or sunset.

Really good advice about the walking shoes. SEMA is huge!!

Soaking feet in the hot tub after every day is helpful too.

The "Moonlight Ranch" wasn't bad back in '73, but I can't vouch for it now. Probably still mighty fine. Ask for Angel. She should be about 60 by now.

Is Glitter Gulch still there? It was pretty nice back about 8 or 9 years ago. The Hoover dam is a good idea. I also just like checking out all the casino's like Ceasers Palace has a really cool mall area where the ceiling is painted like the sky. I am not sure what is at the Mirage since the tiger guys are out. You can have fun in Vegas just walking down the street and watching all the people crying cause they lost all of their money.

Check their yellow pages just for fun. In EVERY city, the thickest listing section is for lawyers. In Vegas, it's for "Entertainers." *****y women who come to your home or hotel room to "dance" for you. "Dance," because pros***ution is illegal inside the city limits!

Oh, never partaken any of these kinds of things. When I go to SEMA, the wife flies out on our nickel, and we catch a couple of the shows (saw the Tiger guys--"I am Seigfried!" "I am Roy!" "(Muffled) And I'm Roy's ****!" Jeezus I've never actually honest to God seen someone who stuffed with a sock, but Roy obviously, obviously had a pair of knee-high Whites stuffed down the front of his pants. Even in their posters and promo literature! Holy **** it's funny when you notice it!)

After the shows, we'd plunk our ***es down in front of a nickle slot machine and feed it $20 over the course of a few hours--and **** down all the free drinks they'd bring us.

Everyone who stays at the MGM Grand also gets a coupon for the free buffet. And if you "forgot your coupon in the room" a lot of times the concierge will give you another one.
we ate free for three days. You wouldn't think you could get sick of crab legs and peel-n-eat shrimp...

There's an antique/cl***ic car museum in the Imperial Palace hotel. I believe it's on the top floor. Hotel is right on the middle for the strip, across from Ceasar's Palace. Definitely worth checking out.

By sure to stop by my shop:

    Granatelli Performance
    4200 W Desert Inn RD
    Unit H
    Vegas 89012
    702-558-9448

We have a bunch of stuff going on during SEMA (including a Ron Covell seminar). We are right behind the Vegas So Cal Speed Shop. We do a lot of shiny paint cars for customers but my '34 3 window and '32 Tudor will be here (both traditional cars in suede).

SO Cal has a bunch of stuff going too so I'm trying to organize a mini jalopy run to counter their big dollar stuff! :D :D

how far are you from the convention center / strip??

whats the best way to get there?? Taxi - drop off and call back to pick me up??

prob. not walking distance, or is it??

    thanks.

  22. If you have time, go downtown and see the Fremont street light exp. I'd go visit Las Vegas speedway, and if you're there in the week, go to Shelby's which is next to the speedway. Hoover is good. There is a tour that takes you down inside the dam. I like to run up and down the strip looking at each casino checking out the architechture. There are several good websites that list entertainment schedules. Try to plan ahead so every minute will count. Good luck.

I have a set of Grancor heads here in my office. My partner is Joe Granatelli, son of Vince, nephew of Andy.

Don't have any patterns though. All that stuff has been long gone. The heads were hard enough to come by. Might be able to do a sand casting off the heads we have. Let me know if you want to pursue it.

We're about a half mile from the strip, just east in Desert Inn Rd (you can't get on DI from the strip though. It goes over the freeway and strip). The convention center is another 1/4 mile west @ Paradise & D.I. Cab ride should be about $10 and five minutes. If you come from the convention center it's a straight shot on DI. If you're coming from the strip you have to take Spring Mountain, then right on Valley View and left on DI. We're on the right side (behind So Cal).
