I have a son your age: he was born in Santa Cruz, all Hot Rod family.

You boys had a distinct California advantage...

My brothers too. They're the three long haired teenage boys. Everybody had long hair back then, even the BROWN folk.

Cool pics!! I love looking at old Kodak Instamatic pics... cools stuff... I'm a little younger... born in '75 in Henderson, Nevada... "SoNev" :) I've been in New Mexico for almost 10 years now and the tradition continues...

A pic of my Dad and I with my dog on the '55 Belair 2 door H/T which was supposed to be my first car...

A pic of my pops and his freshly backyard painted '52..

My first project... '51... (now my brother's)

Yep, me too. I think the majority of us on the HAMB grew up around old cars. Here's me in about 1980, the truck belonged to a friend of my Dad's, he was generous enough to lend it to him after my parents divorced and Dad had nothing else to drive:

Yikes! I was out of college in '72 and my daughter is your age. She recently moved out to the wrong coast.

Even though I grew up around hot rods and drag racing, it might have been because of the song "Deadman's Curve" and an ad I saw in Reader's Digest when I was 11 years old that I bought a '67 E-Type roadster as soon as I got my first job out of engineering school.

I was cruisin' in my Stingray late one night
When an XKE pulled up on the right
He rolled down the window of his shiny new Jag
And challenged me then and there to a drag

(Dead Man's Curve) is no place to play
(Dead Man's Curve) you'd best keep away
(Dead Man's Curve) I can hear 'em say
"Won't come back from Dead Man's Curve"

mna you guys were lucky to have grown up with hotrods. my dad liked cars but wasnt to much on hotrods. besides my mom ruled the roost so there wouldnt have been any anyway..lol if fact no one in my family was really into cars. i started hangin around the neighbors garage when i was around 12 or 13. thats were my interest really took off.but ive got my whole family into them now. wife, grown son and daughter and both my grandkids love old cars hotrod or not.oh yeah and custom harleys too!since we have alot of cars seems my grandkids are already splittin them between them when i go.and they are only 5 and 8.

Great pix! Weren't any hot cars around my house until I got of age. But I loved cars and motorcycles since I could barely walk. Still do. And yep, we all had long hair back in the 70's. I would now except I went bald.

  26. My father despised Hot Rods as a waste of money, but he taught me all the basic fundementals of auto repair and the importance of maintience. My older cousins however all had Hot Rods and they showed me the fun they were having, so I drifted to that arena. I bought my first car when I was 12, a 1957 Chevy 2 door hard top stock with 283 and powerglide, by the time I was 15 I had a 396 and muncie and a steel flip front end. This picture is me when I am 15 years old.

  29. Yeah, I was a big kid, wrestled from 9-15 and in the 70's, long hair was cool, now I have no hair! :D Our friend Aaron was the flame to get a bunch of us boys heavily involved in cars and I mean early in life! A few cars later was a '68 Firebird and at 17, I was at Ardmore Raceway, oh to be young again.....
