    Anyone out there have a old General Kinetics Cam catalog? I pulled this out of my 1957 283cu. in. It says,

    C1H254-S

    Which I know is:

    C=Chevy
    1=small block
    H=hydraulic
    254=advertised duration
    S= ??????

    I would like to know what the "S" stands for and what the lift of this might be. Its in good shape and I would like to run it. Im from the Detroit area where GK was located. Thanks for any help. Here's a few pics.

    Probably 'Solid'. (for mechanical lifters; engine being a '57, it would be probable.

    I used run those cams back in the day....
    $29.95.. That's pretty cheap.
    The most common was the 450/300 for a sbc...

    The "H" is for Hyrdaulic, the last letter denotes a change to the original grind, I just dont know what

    I found a C1H254U single pattern 254@020, .333" lift at the valve, 254@020 .333[/EMAIL] 108 LSA. Description says "For late model smog engines. Some mileage gains". Smallest sbc cam in my 1974 GK catalog. Probably a Harold Brookshire lobe. I would take an educated guess at the duration @ 050 being in the area of 195-200. I would probably just put that one back on the shelf, if it were me. The S may indicate a LSA change.

    To measure lift, take a pair of calipers and measure from the bottom of the lobe to the top of the lobe, then measure across the lobe. Now subtract the across the lobe number from the bottom to top number, then multiply that number times 1.5 (rocker arm ratio) that should be your lift @ the valve.

    The "S" just means the cam is a modified C1 H 254. The original grind being "A" then all revisions or variations were given an alphabetical model.

    Usually being the exhaust duration/centerline was moved. The cam centerline was modified. Lift on exh side was modified.

    Does not include "R" series which was their "white box" series of cams. Most of these profiles are still sold under various names. Very similar to "Energizer" series cams.

    I sold/used GK cams exclusively back in the day.

    I have a C1H290-Z Dual pattern, 290/300, 465/490, 112 LSA guestimate at 050, maybe 225-230 on the intake side? A tad bigger than an L-79 cam.
