Installed a new disc/drum set up on my 51 F3.
Front calipers work well but the rear is an issue.
Push on the brake pedal and the shoes move like they should, push again and they refuse to move..system has correct residual valves and prop valve...where's my problem? M/C was bench bled and the whole system done too.
Thanks in advance and as a side note if you don't have a comment that helps then please stay in your Mom's ba*****t and look up ****.

Bad residual valve on the back letting the fluid bleed backout? Or perhaps installed backwards?

Make sure your peddle is releasing all the way.

If residual valves are a question, press /release the brakes, then open a wheel cylinder bleeder, and see if the system is still holding preasure, if it is, then repeat and break the line open just before the residual valve. If you have preasure before the valve, its not the valve, if its after then you got your culprit.

Sounds as if the MC is letting air back in for the rear wheels. I would have someone press on the pedal and observe the rear brake action, and when the brakes fail to move, keep the pedal depressed and open up either the (rear line) MC bleed valve, or the rear line (at MC) itself and see if air comes out or if it is a solid stream of fluid. If air, it could be either the fitting to the MC is not sealing well or the MC has some sort of issue.

what kind of brakes are they in the rear of the truck?

are they adjusted? if so, how were they adjusted? (procedure)

how far does the pedal move the first time you push it?

how far does it move the second time?

    It's a Ford 9" rear with drums.
All new and adjusted as per instructions.
Pedal goes same distance both times just second time doesn't operate the slave cylinder.

How are you looking at how far the wheel cylinder moves? if the drum is on, it's pretty hard to see it....are both of the drums on?

is it all put together and driving? or are you just seeing how things work, and not to that point yet?

That's what I was thinking. You should only be FEELING it grab & let go of the drum as you spin it. You really shouldn't operate the brakes without the drum on.

    That's a strange one....

Just to clarify, are you sitting on the seat and pushing the pedal with your foot? We can't see your truck, so we kind of have to guess how far it's put together.

Were is your Master cylinder? If it is under the floor try jacking up the front of the truck to get it higher than the bleeders.I had that problem on a 49 ford after replaceing the wheel cylinders.

  14. After this first press brakes work and second press they don't what do you do to get the cycle to repeat ?
