    thanks again guys.

I am really loving the truck now, it feels like a different vehicle with actual paint on it.

It doesn't make sense because I didn't change anything mechanical when I tore it apart to paint it but I floored it when I took toby56 for a ride and it burned tire in all 3 gears and I don't remember it doing that before...so I must have somehow pleased the truck!!!

After driving it another couple hundred miles I found that the dynamat actually was a good addition. It really did make a difference in the heat as well as the sound. I may save up some $$ and buy a box of it to put in the roof of my 4x4 f-1 as well.

Dude that is a super nice old truck. And the story behind it makes it a 1000 times better.
I like the 4x4 more thou.
What happened to all the extra parts you piled durin the years? I guess you could build at least another one....a junky anotherone, but another one no less :D

I still have a lot of leftover parts that I mainly keep for spares for my green truck since I run it in salt and the salt keeps eating the metal. extra doors, running boards, repairable fedners, grill and parts in case I hit a deer..etc..etc... I also have an extra cab and frame and whatnot BUT not enough to build another truck.

And I have ALL the parts including some NOS to one day finish my restore on the nice solid and strait 48 I have in the garage. (though I have no intentions of building it anytime soon since have 2 f-1's on the road now) and a bunch of other projects to get done.

For the most part I s****ped, or gave away, or sold, or traded a lot of the stuff over the years. I only have soo much room so I only try too hang on the best parts. It broke my heart a few times to s**** pretty nice stuff, but no one wanted it on here or locally at the time.

3 of my friends DO have trucks that I loosely put together for them with leftover parts and parts trucks as complete projects.... of course all of them have let me down as the projects are still just sitting . I have even offered to help them get moving on them numerous times.

    Great Thread!! Inspirational!!

To quote Thomas Edison: "Most people do not recognize opportunity, because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work".

Not you though, you grabbed opportunity by the balls!

    Nice Truck!

Today I bit the bullet and gave the state the LOOT to allow me to run a vintage plate..

the truck's cab, bed and frame are all 1950...even thought the front clip is 52 (I like 51-52 clips and the small window of 48-50 and the sculptured bed of 48-50)........SO I found a 1950 plate in fair shape.

Cool, vintage plates are a small detail that really makes a difference.

Looks great. Did you reinforce the mounting points in the stake pocket for the tailgate hinge/ taillight brackets? If so, How? I can't tell on any of the orig. beds I have, too far gone.
    Thanks

The part where the hinged mounts isn't reinforced on them stock.. but here is a reinforcing piece just below that which ties the stake pocket into the rear cross member.

As far as the mounting location I just welded nuts inside the stake pocket. I will try to take a pic of it for you on my 1948 when I get home later today since that one doesn't currently have a bed floor installed.

Thanks for this build thread, you have done a great job in preserving the original look of a great old Ford. I'll view it many times more as I get closer to working on my '52.

Thanks, i'd appreciate it. I have the reinforcing pc for the stake pocket to the lower crossmember, but just couldn't work out what the factory did. It looked like they used cage nuts.
    Thanks again, truck(s) look great.

With help from my dad and my friend Toby, we burned the midnight oil and recovered my seat. It look a lot better now.

A few weeks ago I also replaced the speedometer with a nice one and put all new knobs on the dash. This thing has really shaped up.

2 weeks ago I took the truck to the nostalgia drags

then proceeded to blow up the transmission on the way home (that made the 4th time I had to take it out)

I pulled it out and fixed it and chucked it back in that week and have been driving it a bit since then BUT I am starting to regret building the motor up........ horsepower costs too much $$$

2 weekends ago I finally got the chance to fix up 2 of the blemished that were bugging me..... I resprayed the 2 front upper fenders. the p***enger side I must have dripped sweat when painting because it had a little round spot were the paint didn't adhere. And a few months after I painted it the drivers fender had one little rust spot that bugged the heck out of me so I welded it up and re sprayed that fender. So the truck is "whole" again, I forgot how quick it is. I get used to driving my green one all the time as well as my model A and vicky then I hop in this thing and WOW.

I found a neat vintage tach this fall at a swap meet and sent it out to be updated for 12v and to work without a sender. I finally got it back today and put it in the truck
