Glen a friendly bit of advice, if Ryan delets your post, please don't repost he is the boss here and sets all the rules. We are all grateful for the extremely hard work that goes into this forum an what he says and does goes. The other reason is the Motor Home. This forum is 1965 and earlier Traditional Style Hot Rods. You might find a few threads with boats, or motorcycles, tools, etc., but they will all fit into the criterea of "Traditional". Hope that helps.
This works for any engine and finds the "sweet spot" for timing. There are no timing specs for a modified engine. As soon as you change cam, intake, spark plug heat range, etc the factory or someone else's specs go out the window. Accelerate hard in upper gears. If it pings back off the timing 2 degrees. Repeat till it stops pinging. The sweet spot will be dirrerent in hot weather vs cold.
On the other hand, if you were building a truck like my 57 chevy one ton, with a 454 in it, and you needed timing advice....no problem!
