Looking to graft in a fuel door into the drivers side fender just under the body line. I'm thinking a 5 inch round door would look the best. I've got a side fill tank. I looked at the weld-in ones offered online but can't tell from the images if they are decent or not. Went shopping at the local yard last week & got some ideas but nothing to bring home. Any recommendations on a donor vehicle or vendor? Post pictures!!! Thanks, Ken
Im putting mine inside the bed, actually the door is being cut out of my 54 and going in there. Theres a ton of room towards the end of the bed
spring load it closed, BMWs have a "push out doohickie" that clicks closed, then when pushed in clicks out so you can grab it. needs a square hole and about an inch clearance behind to fit it in. works good
I was looking for the pop out style. Not too interested in the ones with the finger dimple. I was checking out the Hagan units online, not bad but it looks like they are using a kitchen cabinet hardware for the hinge & magnetic pop out. I could build this with stuff from Home Depot. They also state that the door in 3-1/2" in diameter. That seems kind of small. I was looking for about 5" dia.. I'll be looking again today, mainly because I like junk yard shopping! Who knows what else I'll find.
Actually the cabinet hinge was on another unit. The Hagan model has a capless gas fill system. Kind of cool, that's how they get away with such a small door.
i have a hagen on my merc, good quality stuff. it comes with a push through gas cap. you don't have to unscrew the cap to put fuel in. i think the small round one would look good on your truck. the point is to not see it.
No, I was right the first time. It is a modified kitchen cabinet hinge. Maybe I'll go to Home Depot today!
I would like to completly hide it but it's kind of tough with the limited options. Do you have any issues with the capless fill system? Does it work fine at the pump?
