well i introduced my self the other day and got some nice welcoms,so thanx for those...I hope im not breaking any rules but iv got some qwestions to ask....my ride is a 1960 ford falcon ,its black with a 144 and 3ott. Its pretty much stock and i would like to make a nice 60s type cruiser out of it...problem is i wasnt alive then and have my ideas but want to hear yours. my plan is a 200 I6 with a later 3spd or auto ,keep the black paint and maybe some shaving skinny whites and moons ...my real concern is the roof ..my interior is fact. silver(gray now) and black..and my qwestion is do you think a 4door 60 falcon would look good with a silver metallic roof and black body ???or even a white roof and white interior??I have photo shop but have no idea how to use it but could post some pics in a day or two if some one wants to play around with it. again hope im not jumping the gun here but would like to hear your thoughts...thanx -Johnny.

  2. I'd steer clear of Silver and Black, unless you like the raiders.

Think about some alternatives... Purle flake, Blue Flake... maybe even green. I'd avoid reds, yellows, oranges with black though. Gold may work, but there's probably some sports team out there with that combo.

As for interior, you can never go wrong with all black... and or, tie the roof color in with it, and do a black and blue.

If it were mine though, I'd do a black and white interior... leave the exterior all black, and then add some white pinstriping (subtle striping). Wheels, Id go with the chrome baby moons and thin whites...

    Sam.

  3. hmmmmmmm ...peel the handles...hammer it...maybe a silver/gray on the insert..
heres a shot of one of my old ones(circa84?)(had a bunch over the years):)
the rims were canary yellow with yellow and white striping on trunk and hood,
    I liked it :)

    Welcome man.
Falcons rock. Even 4 door ones. There's a dude around here that drives 3 4door comets ('63s or 64's I believe). They are all the same except, One is red, one is blue and one is white.....Nope, no punchline. He's real. Neat fella. He's youngish...like 26 or so....and he looks like an early 60's insurance salesman. The dude is cool. I've talked to him and seen his cars up close, all sporting 6cyls. His mother made the interiors for him, so its all nice and all, but kinda handmade looking. He's a cool fella....marching to the beat of his own drum and loving life....and driving 3 clean, semi restored, old cars.

My point? People are going to say FALCONS SUCK, especially 4 door ones. You suck "rockerbilly" etc etc...flat black sucks...etc etc. Especially if you take that machine down the "kustom rat rodz path".

My advice to you is enjoy that car for what it is. A nice mild family machine...a cruiser...

I think I would go more the restoration route with it. Lower it a little, paint it up a nice 60's type color. (except that puke green...blah!). Do a nice interior dress up in some nice church clothes and drive around in it and wave at the girls.

Maybe a nice light blue for the car???? Stay away from the 80's look though. Try and keep it looking like you just bought it off of granny and lowered it a little. Keep the chrome. Make the car shine through the little details.

I think I would stay away from the overt "hot rod" influences here.
It only leads to more modifications and more of the "sickness"....believe me, I know. I've already put a tube axle under the front of my Ford....and I'm planning on going waaaaaaay further. When I can pull the front wheels off the ground and the car is essentially illegal on the street...then I'll be done. ;) My car is a butchered up nasty machine. It has a bad attitude. The nastier (faster) and more stripped down it is, the more my goal is met....and right now its friggen SLOW. If I started with your car, I would have taken another path and there is nothing wrong with that.

    Just my 2¢
    Got any pics?

  5. What Tingler said. What ever you do please keep the On the tree!! I love OTT, hell nobody hardly knows what they are any more.

Then, I'd run some painted steel wheels with dog dish hub caps. Just keep it sleeper style, nothin guady.

I just got a 62 4 door falcon for my lady. Been working on it for a couple months now. So far, lowered 5" in the back, shaved all handles and trim, has a red primer body color, black gloss top, greyish-green steel wheels with homemade spiders and trim rings, and pacemaker headers on the 144.

My point, just do what you want. People may look at my color choice and joke, but I don't care. I'm happy with it. It all depends on what you can do yourself with what you have. Four doors are kinda cool, got mine for $800. Lot cheaper than a 2 door.

My first 2 cars had 6cly 3 on the tree... do yourself a favor and get rid of that trans! Even if you baby it, it will break. Sooner than later. I had the trans out of both of my cars more than once. The only reason I could rebuild it was because a friend of my dad's had a bunch of old parts for them. If you can find a 4 speed, use that, but make sure you get the right bell housing. (which by the way is kinda hard to come by = pricey)

I love falcons, so have fun with your car.

working on a 61 comet, and i am going satin black/silver flake top. no, i am not a raiders fan. don't let the bastards get you down, this combo looks titties. and i do recommend the 200 i6. pick up a copy of the ford falcon perfomance manual if you dont already have one, its invaluable if you run a sixer. good luck, post some pics when youre "done."

looks nice man, my best mate has a 64 coupe which we work on

  13. not trying to hijack here, but will the 300 six drop in an old falcon without much trouble? i know they make tons of speed equipment for that engine.

i don't think the black and silver would look bad at all. that way you don't have to mess with the interior. (i'm just thinking the cheap easy route here). get some bellflower tips, but make sure you have a header or split manifold. nothing says gay like fake duals. try to score a silver flake steering wheel too. it's also very easy to turn that little bulge in the hood into a nice small clean hood scoop that looks really good too. did that on my 60 ranchero. lowering the car is key though. if you do all this stuff and it sits a mile in the air, it's not gonna look right. and at least shave the rear door handles. that way the 4 door thing is not as obvious. you don't even have to put solenooids on them. if somebody needs in the back seat, just reach around and open it. no biggie. i have a buddy that had a 4 door falcon that was neat as shit. we called it the "buzzbomb". it was a super fun car. faclons rock, have fun with yours.

I'm with Irritant. Look at the 300 six. It has separate intake and exhaust manifolds unlike the 144 and 200 cast iron integral intake manifold. If I remember correctly (theres that memory thing again), the 300 truck engines had a forged steel crank. Make the car a sleeper so they don't suspect what's under the hood. 3ott is a good idea and leaves the floor clear so your honey can sit next to you and not have to fight with the shifter. Paint colors are always a personal choice. Wheels, why not chrome reverse with stock hubcaps? I have always liked the early Falcon rancheros (Utes to the boys from Oz). My all time favorite is the '67-'69 Rancheros though.

  15. I'll say it....That Bird is cool....Even if it does have the wrong wheels on it for my taste.

Hammer it. Shave it and throw on some supremes and thin whites.

the only drag with 300 sixes is the amount of alteration you have to do: you have to notch the top of one shock tower, the starter is in the wrong place, i believe the exhaust requires massaging to fit, and the entire motor has a taller deck height, etc. there a bunch of little niggles that lead me to a 200 six. i know theres no replacement for displacement, but its not as if speed parts for the 200 are nonexistent - cliffordperfomance.com sells whatever you could want to hop up this motor - i hear you can get 300 horsies out of em. and offenhauser makes a tri power setup with prgressive linkage for them. id stay with the 200, or if you want more inches, find a 250, they share the same layout and i believe block.

Not a Falcon but same idea, shit same car just different sheet metal..............My first homebuilt car was a 67 Mustang with an inline 200. Mom wouldn't let me have anything with two extra cyls. SO to out smart her and all the boys, I stuffed a 300 in her!:D It was SOOOOOOOO much fun! God do I miss that freakin car! Miss it miss it miss it! I LOVE Ford's inlines!!

    Okay gush over.

**after thought, because the 300 is SO heavy, I upgraded (Shelby stuff) the front and rear suspension to handle the weight. I figured it would kill the original 6cyl suspension......ya know that whole 4 vs 5 lug thing.**

i dont think weight is a huge issue, ive been told you can stick a smallblock in a six cylinder mustang so long as you get a stiffer spring and change the upper ball joints every year or so. its more the question of deck height and the other deals in early falcons and comets. by 64 its not a worry anymore, but because this is an early one, hood clearance among many other things is going to be a problem.

I always thought those Aussie only front clips looked much better than the Yankee versions.but my fav Faclys will always be the 72-78 Coupes  I'm a Mad Maxoholic what can i say anyway back to this guys thread the 60-63 Falcons never got the respect they deserved and froms seeing several on here they make great cruisers and look pretty trick when done right.

Now a 300 six may be a lil too much for the rear especially since they only came in trucks but that would be cool a stump pullin lil Falcon with a 300 6 banger

I had a '61 Comet more door, 144 I6, 3 on the tree, it was a cool little car, I miss it. Don't shave the rear handles, that won't fool any body, you don't have to be ashamed it's a four door. A 200 would be a nice swap, with a split manifold and true dual straight pipes, it'll rap like a mother. Your kind of limited on your wheel options, unless you want to run adaptors, or swap to five lug, I say just run stock steelies with caps, and pinner whites. Skinny whites are more of the sixties look your going for. Take example from Lowsquires, or Eric's Rancheros. I'd like to see gold and black, but if your interior is already silver and black, I'd go with that. Silver flake roof, and interior, maybe a few well placed silver scallops, outlined with white striping. Angel hair in the package tray! Maybe whip up some custom taillight lenses. Oh yeah, and make it as low as you can. Damn now I want to build another one.
