I guess they were wrong. How many runs on this set up? Looks like fatigue on pressure plate.

Is it a multi disk clutch? Is the stud mounting something provided by the clutch manufacturer? It looks like the PP/cover was sitting on washers, not clamped directly to the flywheel.

in picture 2 it looks like there is a hole torn out of the clutch cover the size of washer under the flywheel nut, and the one on the other clutch cover/PP lobe has worn about halfway through the cover.

I'm wondering if the nuts/studs got loose due to the clutch cover wiggling atop those stand-off washers and embedding into the clutch cover.

  17. No it is a single sintered iron disc. The .020 shims(washers) are used to set up ring height and you remove shims as the clutch wears. The hole torn out of the pressure plate is from my gently prying it with a bar as there was no other way except torch or grinder that this was gonna come apart after that violent clutch explosion. I have been in contact with my clutchman Tim Hyatt and my parts are on the way to meet him at the next race Friday. He says the plate I was using has been known to crack around rivets. This info coincides with my thoughts gained after dismantling and sifting thru shrapnel...I ***ure you,the clutch and related parts were correctly installed...Iv'e been fiddlin with this sorta thing very close to 40 years now...oh and yes the studs and nuts, shims all needed hardware to correctly install p.plate can be had inna kit form from Ram

I am sorry about the carnage. It is probably wrong to rate clutch and pressure plates by horsepower. It comes down to how much weight and rubber on the rear. What I mean is the impact exerted on the hit. But how do you state that as a specification :D

  20. Kind of what I was thinking ^^^ only you said it better.

  21. I just mentioned that as a very broad statement to allude that the setup should have been way strong enough.

  22. Well,I did my homework...What do you base your opinion on please educate me...

  23. Can you explain where you are coming from?

  24. Looks like the pressure plate got loose.

may just need to pull it out and inspect more often? I always hear most of the stick racers using a feeler guage to check wear also i drilled a hole to check depth in my bell & its used to adjust presure?

  26. I have inspected the carnage and I can see on a part of the clutch plate that came off,a crack that is darker than the break. It is tellin me the disc cracked by the rivet.Tim Hyatt a professional clutchman and took one look and said "those plates crack around the rivets"I have sent the shrapnel off to Hyatt Racing Services as that is his entire buisness and he is THE clutchman at NHRA events. He is gonna rework my flywheel, overhaul my p.plate and get me all hooked up right away! Service with a smile!

  27. Yes I have a factory hole on the bottom of my can so I can fit a feeler guage to check my airgap. I also drilled a hole in between my trans bolts to access my p.plate spring tension. the clutch was out for inspection last winter and I saw no cracks anywhere...I will inspect it a lot closer from here on out! I have faith in Tims judgement and will do what he suggests.I know there are clutch cars out there with 3 or 4 years on their stuff but inspection is yer friend!!!!
