I dont trust the wiring in my car (since its all original) and I also want to switch over to 12 volt from my current 6 volt system. Anyway, my car has a positive ground and Id like to switch it over to negative ground. What exactly will be involved in doing that?

Ideally, Id like to rewire the car and stitch over the ground at the same time.

I converted all mine over to negative ground 12 volt.
The wires to your lights should all be fine. Switch the
the bat cables. The tricky part is to go back the the amp/bat gauge and reverse the cables. do you have an alternator or generator? voltage regulator?

my bad...if you have 6 volt you probably have a generator...
do you want 12 volt system? is so they can rebuild it for 12 volt

Put a 12v regulator on it, it's likely that the gen will work as is... (polerize the gen)

I swapped to negative ground in my Packard (though I kept it 6v)... Its just as easy as they say. Swap the cables and polorize your genny. When I go to 12v I'm instaling a new harness, as I've heard of issues since the old wiring might have bigger guage wires going to everything... I bought a harness from Rebel Wire for about 125 bucks and even though I'm not even close to instlling it yet, I'm very happy with it and those guys are wonderful to deal with!!

Thanks guys. With the way you guys are saying it seems pretty straight forward.
Just so that i have this down right- Ill be rewiring the whole car (with a kit from ez wire or rebel wire- have to look in to them)... Anyway, Rewiring, converting to 12v and switching to neg. ground:

After I run all the new wires (just the way I would if it was a standard 12v system), Im going to use a 12v to 6v regulator/reducer for the gauges, either have my gen converted to 12v polerized or even get a alternator, also wire in the ignition ballast, run negative off the battery as ground and positive as positive. Do I have it right?

In terms of my positive ground dizzy points setup, will the ballast be all I would need?

Again, thanks for the help with this. Im not familiar/ too much experience with and want to be sure I do this whole thing right
