Building a model a pickup, and I'm wondering what y'all are using for tire/wheel options on yours. I like the look of the wide whites, but not sure on the size. Am I crazy or are some people running larger wheels in front than on rear? I swear I've seen more than one person with 16's in the front and 15's in the rear. Correct me if I'm wrong.... Is it advisable to get the actual tires/wheels I'll be using on the truck before I start setting up the susp.,frame, etc.? I would think that would help dictate where things are gonna sit with load on it, etc. Like tire in relation to bed sides, etc...
Some guys run the 16s in front but with a shorter tire, like a 4.50 or 5.50, then run a 15in in back but with a taller and wider tire. I am running 5.50/16 in front and 7.50/16 in back. It can be hard to visualize what it will look like with the tires you want on there, but isn't hard to find the overall diameter of the tire and set your project on blocks or jackstands to see the rake. (Rolf made some kick*** rolling stands for his A.) You will need to set it at close to ride height (engine in car) to set up the front suspension, especially the wishbones. Jay
Here's what I have so far... No fenders, pretty ratty genny A frame, 59A flathead, '39 3spd, '36 rear end with '40 brakes, '37 front axle (will be replaced with superbell likely unless I can get this one dropped), '37 bones, which I'll split. Plan on a spring over axle or suicide setup - not sure which yet. No body as of yet... looking for 28-35 closed cab for it - if anyone has something! That help? So, for mocking it all up, and without having the sidewall height of the tire(s), how do I know how tall to make the mockup jackstands? Maybe a dumb question, but...
