A Little early. My Nephew Christian had his first Pinewood Derby Race this year. Managed a third in show and placed in the top ten for speed. Did anyone guess....he's a Tiger scout. The paint is HOK Tangelo pearl over a course silver base. Intercoat clear. Fogged antique white around the bottom. Intercoat clear. Then hand painted the tiger stripes on and final clear coated it.
I've got a wrecker in the works too! Of course, mine ain't really trad: Here's a streamliner I've been working on:
I like the paint on the Pinewood Derby car. Here are some models I've done. Lately I've done more Hotwheels than models for 2 reasons. One, I have tons of Hotwheels and two, the Hotwheels are cheaper than models.
A 1956 Ford Chopped Pickup - Smoothed firewall, C notch rear frame, custom front suspension. Will have suicide doors too!
Oh man that Edsel is gonna kick ****. I am liking it big time dude. KOOL The green A truck is awesome too.
never thought of an Edsel as a g***er - I like it! You model guys blow me away... where'd I stick all those old boxes of half-finished models? I just might have to donate them to somebody.
Old Gilbert American-Flyer slot car from the early 60's, redone 50's hot-rod style stole this picture from eBay of a mint pair of cars
GREG, I haven't posted pictures of the projects I've been workin' on but I'm-a-gonna! Tho I've got boxes of unbuilt one's I'll take some more if your serious. Hope you're doing well. ...and, uh,... to the others, ROCK ON! That Edsel's looking good and the li'l green pick-up is really *****'n> Great photo, too. Take 'er easy boys. I can't wait to join the fun on this thread. Soon, I hope,...soon.
Last night at Walmart I found in the cheap AMT line the '32 5 window. Art work on the box only shows the stock version but it is the 3 in 1 kit.
G***er is nice...both of em... but guys.............all of those early "g***ers" did NOT sit that high....many were down in the weeds and actually worked better than many that were "up"...........What we did was simply leave the frame and engine "up"...and shove the body down around it.........aero package got better, visibility was super and the cars were able to go a bit faster...........even back then people said they were "funny looking".........little did we know that in 65 the chit would hit the fan................building 2 altered wheelbase 65 Dodges now and a 65 Comet for myself.......... M.
I would love to see some g***er pics of low cars from "the day". I like the nose high look, yet it may not be 100% period correct. I am building a fleet of g***ers, Willys, the Edsel, 1950 Chevy, and more - all straight axles and all are going to be mean looking. Please share some pics if you have em, can always use the reference. Thanks, Steve
Most of the newer AMT kits have ****py box art depicting a stocker or worse (the ones with big wheels and rubber band tyres) but usually have much more in the box than just the stock parts. AMT's model A roadster with the cream coloured stocker on the box, for example, has almost all the bits needed to build the Ala Kart including the nice baby hemi. The latest version of the '34 Coupe is one of the best as it has all the stock and hot rod parts in the box.
