OK I am just starting my new project a 61 Chevy C-10 custom and am thinking that I'd like to put a Chevy 350 or 305 in my truck the previous owner put a ford 9" rear end (I haven't checked the ratio yet ) and a T400 trans in it so my question is,Does anyone know What do I need to do in the way of motor mounts for my power plant ? any advice here would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks Guys

Is the transmission in it? can you maybe take some pictures of the engine bay, so we can see what you have to work with?

find frame mounts for a 63-66 pickup, set the motor in place and drill the holes. The trans crossmember is tricky because of the torsion bars. A buddy and I put a 389 Pontiac into a 60, and just drilled the torsion bar crossmember, and used a stock trans mount.

I'm guessing that if it has a TH400 in it then someone already made motor mounts too

67-72chevytrucks.com is home to a wealth of info. Check out the 60 thru 66 section to start.

I'm with Squirrel on this one--a TH400 doesn't just bolt in... nor does ANY Chevy trans.
Originally they had bellhousing mounts, with the trans hanging in space. The front mount was a saddle that went to the front of the engine, with a single mount below the crank pulley.

If someone already mounted a modern trans in it, that means they made a cross member, and there's a good chance they took care of the side motor mounts.

though.... now that I think of it, there WERE some side mounts available, for auto-equipped trucks. I think they might have used a factory trans crossmember for auto-trans equipped trucks.

Either way, there's a good chance you've already got what you need if someone started the swap.

Looks like they didn't put side mounts in it. You should.

  15. I used a set of engine towers from a '69 c10 on my '62 c10 when I swapped from the 235 inline 6 to a sbc.
