My buddy Russ (the guy that built the Terraplane) picked up a 51 stude over the weekend. He has had 2 50 Convertibles and apparently I may be rubbing off on him and he wants to build a roadster out of one. I was looking at the back window and was thinking maybe combining the pic below with a chopped back glass for a windshield and make a lakes style open wheeled stude monstrosity with those american racing salt flat wheels, perhaps even with a roof like the Chrisman Bros. car all chopped down and stuff. I think the back end will be the toughest to pull off. Just to show yu that nothing is new he found these pics out of a 1991 Custom Rodder magazine where the staff was talking about the lack of tin... Funny because in '91 I could have bought all kinds of stuff cheap, but I was just graduating high school and spending all of my money on beer and pot...sooooo. And that Edsel car everyone likes to bitch about, they did it right in this illustration.
i LOVE THAT PIC GO FOR IT. i STARTED TO DO THAT WHEN I DID MY STUDEBAKER ROADSTER PICKUP THAT I RACED FOR A FEW YEARS , cARL LOVED IT AT MOKAN , RACED AT CENTERVILLE ENNIS TEX NOBLE IN OKC ARK CITY HOUSTON ETC MADE A GREAT LOOKING HOT ROD ,,
using back glass for a windshield is not a good idea one rock and instead of a little ding, the whole thing will be in a million pieces in your face.
That's gay as the rest of your Space thingys, you pickle puffer! That's almost as stupid as a 60 ford on a chevy truck. That thing will be as bad as two fat chicks bumping uglies!
WHAT HE SAID, IN BOLD PRINT!!! The original Deora even, with the '60 Ford wagon back window for a windshield would be a disaster looking for a pebble. Trailered show cars only, and enclosed trailer at that!
Those are really cool!!! There was another style drawing similar to those in HOTROD MECHANIX around the same time using a Studebaker Lark narrowed down to a fenderless roadster. I think it just had everything outboard of the grill amputated. I was looking for it but couldn't find the issue. Anyone know which one it's in?
I think I liked the edsel better then the stude in the drawings. The Edsel seemed to flow good, while the stude didn't seem to fit together. But what do I know, I can't figure out what wheels to run on my pickup. Gene
I like the Edsel more too. But Russ is a Stude guy. Like I said though, I don't know how to get the rear to flow. We'll see I guess. I suppose if he gives up on it, which I doubt, maybe I could cabbage onto it. Russ had those pics thrown out in his garage. If you have seen his garages it is a miracle that he even found them. I thought that about the rear glass too, but no guts no glory I suppose.
I think this Photoshopped version that Klazurfer did for my Bullet Nose Paradise website is the shits. And it would be a lot less work too.........
Work?......we ain't afraid of work here in IL. It is all we have to do. Russ has had 2 50 Stude convertibles in the past 6 years. I don't think he really wants another at this moment. If you saw the donor car, cutting it down would be much less work than fixing the POS up.
That rear glass may be laminated since it is a 50. Not sure when the changeover to tempered safety glass occurred, but if the back glass is laminated then it is no different than any front glass. You could use it without fear of a pebble shattering it.
I second that. You fuckers got to much time on your hands.Must be all that time you spent lost in a corn Maze.. Maybe you could name Ring around Uranis Shoe You gay Ill boyz ready for the drags????????\
Shoe, we are always ready.....don't forget to bring that door homie. I am going to win at Mokan, I have a nice evening gown, a feather boa and some stilletto pumps.....what's that you say? It ain't that kind of drags? My bad. As for the name, it probably won't get one, Russ isn't as gay as the rest of us central Illinoiser's.
I like the Stude. Graft this Audi TT to the back and yer stylin' an profilin' Of course, you'll have to lose the taillights and spoiler, and section the body so the tires stick out, but I think it would solve yer problem.
At the Crystal Lake, Il. cruise recently I spied a narrowed Edsel bodied rod. It looked like he took a page or two out of your playbook, Plowboy. I'll try to get some pics of it soon. Joel
have to bring this to top as i think Plow rubbing off (damn thats sounds bad) on his friend is great cant wait to see that space car done & driving as i love the space truck ...............
Oh yeah I forgot, get back to work you bum. I'm calling your boss and telling him what you do all day!
those drawing are COOL!! i like the yellow Edsel roadster that someone built. i think the IFS could go and it needs some different wheels, but it is cool otherwise. the Stude one is even cooler yet. a few weeks ago my friend Paul Beck was talking about how cool one of those Stude roadsters would look with no fenders. he saw one on a trailer ahead of him on the E-way and was'nt sure what it was (till he got up close) and while he was dodging through traffic trying to get a closer look he had visions of it being a fenderless roadster. he got up close and realised it was a Stude convert that was partly disassembled (no fenders). i say DO IT!!
If you would work on yours maybe you would get it done also!! I went to Plowboys Fri night to see some progress but That didnt happen, I thought you had the floor in it.
They both look awesome but I like the Edsel better. I wonder if it would be better to start with a fourdoor (on the Edsel)so you would have the shorter .....roadster doors. Then skin over the back door opening. The rest will be split down the middle and pieced together anyway. Just my 2 cents...
I had to rip out and rework some of the floor support. I did get the second section cut last night though. I will weld it in tomorrow. Then I can st the front section back in and make the drive shaft tunnel. It will all fall into place soon. By the way good to hear fromyou stranger!
