Features 1948-52 New Old Style Kustoms

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by J.B., Dec 12, 2010.

  1. There are quite a few in the works..... I am building a '41.
My buddy is knocking the fishing lure out of a current '48 and going back traditional.
All while building a '38 Poncho that we chopped in the Winfield chop class.
    Thats 3 in about 8 miles. ;)

This is looking very promising, thanks for the tip. I can buy those springs new for $60 and that would be a perfect amount of drop to go along with a 2 or 3" drop in the front.

I'll post results if I do it.

I always loved Rons Buick also.I love the look of it at his drive height and not the way it sits when parked.I think this picture fits into this thread.

Wow Jeff I've never seen that Buick at ride height, looks SOOOOOOOO much better than when its parked and "aired out".

  13. That Buick just murders when it's driving down the street.I would put some Appletons on that beauty if it were mine but unfortunately it's not,so I don't have to worry.

I didn't take the pic,I swiped it from Rik's site.

Yeah that motor is simple, clean and shiny just the way a custom should be. I dont subscribe to never showing the motor. If i dont show it thats fine, BUT i wanna know whats under there and know its nice like the rest of the car.

This is the cap in question. Can we nail down a date when these were available? I'll buy a pair of '50 Olds caps if these aren't going to be correct.

  23. Haha !!! Well I will say that the pic was taken a while ago and .......9 out of 10 people think its a sbc anyway so clamps dont matter.Or they cant believe the battery and make some comment on how they dont sell those at AutoZone.I took time and ordered era correct hardware as far as fillister head screws and other era Correct details and nobody notices and most people don't care.It really is sad but so very true.

Squablow, even if they were available, I always feel like a car looks a bit cheaper with those. I personally think you would be much better with some '50 olds caps.
Lots of guys with real fine kustoms were running Olds caps back in the early 50s.

I have a pair that I will be using sometimes on my '46.

    My $0.02

    True.

Looks like those Olds caps are pretty cheap to buy, too. Do they snap on like a regular cap, or do they have some goofy bullshit to re-engineer like the Cadillac ones do?

My Olds has the bigger 257" flathead 6 in it, swapped in from a '50 Olds wagon that was burnt in a fire, and 15" wheels, so I guess it would make sense that someone with access to a '50 parts car would have salvaged the wheels/hubcaps off of the same car if this were built in 1950-1951.

Still curious to know when those 15" smooth flippers were first available though. They do say "custom" a bit more than the Olds caps do, at least to me.

The Olds caps just snap on like a normal cap around the edge.

  27. Lets see a picture of them caps.

  28. My Hudson is running those Olds caps.

I thought I had a bigger pic, but no on this computer at the moment:
