Wow i can't believe i did it! I did something I've been talking bout doing for years. I went back to school to be a machinist. And, holy cow! School has changed. I went to the same school 12 years ago for Autobody repair and refinish. The online courses, the technology, just wow. I definatly have my work cut out for me this time. And, my lady is aware of the financial grains possible with this career path. She's all grins. This is how I told her I wanted to do this. Honey, I realized today. I need to provide not just contribute. her response, with a have ****ed smile, are you sure you're going to actualy do it this time? She's great! Suppose that's why I'm marrying her?
lastest from me. Well skool and work have eaten up every last second of my day. Oh well. short term consequenses to long term goal. Havent even lifted the cover off the ford in about 3 weeks. (that was about when I started skool) so sad. Am learning alot. The fun stuff (operating manual mill) seems to be coming to me like a duck to water. The stuff to actual pay the bills (cnc programming) is a bit more of a challenge. I will be taking in a late car show this weekend. I heard there is one in Shawano. Think its the 7th. is part of the flea market that is there every sunday. Anyone else going?
Dude, take in the Iron Invasion show this weekend the 6th, saturday, in Woodstock Illinois. It's kinda the little brother to the Pile Up that ended an incredible run last year, the Chrome Czars have given a blessing to this show and it will be awesome. The Iron Invasion will really be worth your trip. I wish I could tell ya how to hook up with HAMB'er, 333 Half Evil at the show. He runs a small machine shop in G.R. Michigan and he'd be a fun talk for you about machining and the machinist trade. He's been at it quite a while and is a good guy to get advise from. He's had some rough tough times but still making it work. Hell of a car/bike guy too!!! If you think you might make the Iron Invasion, let me know and I will try and get you some contact info if you are interested. Good luck on the career move.
I did the back to school thing at age 55. I was already a licensed engineer, but had some GI Bill money to use or lose, so I took an 18 month long auto machinist course. Had some fun, built two flatheads, got my diploma and haven't touched any of the equipment I trained on in 12 years. Sure was interesting going to school with a bunch of 18 year olds.
hey there oldschool, if you do decide to head to the iron invasion pm me and I'll give you my cell number. Would love to meet with you and chat. The machinist gig can be a roller coaster ride but can also be very rewarding. Pay attention to the cnc stuff, pick it up as best you can. It is the way things are going....well actually have been. The manual stuff is also great knowledge and makes it much easier to have machines at home!!!!! Good luck to ya.
thanks for the info. i wont be able to make it to the invasion.I'll have to look 333 some time. thanks.
Istarted back to chool this August. Took me a week to get into the flow, but my GPA is 3.5 - 4.0. I'm taking welding. Just found out Monday, I should have had 2 welding cl***es this semester instead of the one. I'll have to double up next semester.
