I just picked up what I was told was/is a '35-36 complete rear end - drums, torque tube, spring, etc. Everything minus the shocks... all nicely rebuilt, blasted and painted... pretty good deal I thought at $500.

My question is: how can i identify what year this is, and secondly, when I place it under the A frame I have, it looks as though it's *way* too long for the frame. I'm assuming the torque tube and driveshaft will need to be shortened in order to make it fit, a la the Bishop/Tardel book?

If I end up ditching the frame I have and fabricating my own (or having it done), do I still need to shorten this, or could I just use it at full length? Or would the longer wheelbase look goofy? I assume at some point, this was the appropriate length system to use on a car or truck, but not sure...

I'll attach some photos of the rear for ID purposes in a few minutes.

  3. that is a `36-`36 rear end

as for shortening , that willl depend on wheel base , where you put the motor, etc

in a stock wheel base Model A frame you will probabilly need to shorten it
