Ever just sit in your shop.. beer in hand.. look at project and try and figure out next move? In front of me is one of my inline 6's.. Was end of day.. contemplating which direction to go with this particular Chebby 250. Took several beers to open my mind to the possibilities. The shop.. a place of quiet contemplation.. OOOoooOOOoommmmm....
This was covered back in 2010...... It's called the. "Paralysis of ****ysis" And here's a link......... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=463424
Well I didn't do any hydrating unless coffee counts but I did go to the garage and ponder what I whould do about installing a sping in my commander so it can leave this weekend. I wish I had done more than ponder. I think I know what I need to do though it involves installing the spring, I think. Hmmmmn better think on it a bit.
Notwithstanding the fact that that ^^^ is an entertaining thread . . . actually, I don't think this is what he's talking about. Some of us are A-type drivers who just DO, all the time, and some of us are more prone to contemplation than action. We can't help it, any more than the A-types can help their balls-to-the-wall nonstop action. Some of us are not tempted to tackle more than one project at a time, in fact, we are borderline overwhelmed by the one project we have sitting in our garage. This is often due to having never taken on so much car project at one time . Ciphering, that's what I call it. Comes from spending many years as a carpenter, especially from my residential framing days. It certainly helps to visualize that 3-D thing that you are crafting. Often times there is more than one path to get to the endpoint, so ciphering . . . our OP's meditating . . . is required. Or, at least, it's required by us non A-types. In fact, I really enjoy just sitting and pondering the next few moves, in the solitude of my garage, with a beverage in hand . . .
Once you are over your slobbering drunk. Take it out for a long distance drive, a half days ride and back or more. By the time you get it back home you will have the next step figured out.
every boat shop in the world has a "thinking chair", no reason the garage should be any different. special things come to those that think.
You bet, I do. Although, I usually don't have the patience to sit there long enough for several beers.
BAH! YOU HYDRATE YOUR WAY AND I'LL HYDRATE MINE!!!1 Actually I fall in between here somewhere.. some-days I'm a contemplater and other days I'm an A-type.. I've got 4 projects I'm working on.. so I can't ponder all the time! YES! YES! I've got a special chair just for that purpose!!! Cheers!
People don't plan to fail, they just fail to plan - if that takes a 'thinking chair' and a couple of beers - go for it.
