Anybody ever done a set of four oil baths on 94's? Are there any available? Going back together with her and wanted to try something a little different for my olds motor. Thanks.
You might have a hard time with spacing in between the carbs. The old oil baths aren't as small as you think. They look good in my book though. The cl***ifieds always has a few for sale
None that small. They would have to be 4.5" in diameter to fit that spacing. I have thought about machining some that would resemble an oil bath but use a wire wrapped K&N instead. Just havent had the time.
Thanks Ryan. I am not ever selling this car (you know why) so I am really taking my time to do it the right way. I painted the lower dampner/pulley black and going to find some finned V. covers to calm the color down a bit. I have an oil bath on my 58 Cushman Shriners Edition that may fit as far as over all width but the carb. opening would be way to small. A guy could maybe do some cutting on it to make it fit but I had to pay 250.00 for one and it was a ***** to find. I would hate to have to pay 1,000.00 for air cleaners.
I have thought of doing this if I ever have a multi carb set-up. Here is a small one that I may use for my single carb A banger, it needs the right carb mount/ring welded in. Thse and ones like them came on vintage 8-15 horse single and twin engines for industrial use. I see these on the auction site at times. Another option would be to use two medium sized round ones and fab a plenum to fit two carbs each. You could also make a custom shaped one from old body beads, door, cowl etc. to get nice curves, something like that would make a great tech. thread.
Oil baths are good for tractors and in the day when automobiles traveled roads of dirt and gravel and due to their large capacity for holding debris. They are in no way superior to modern day filters and not to mention you are atomizing gas with a oil & air mixture and not just pure air. But they do look cool
