I'm stumped trying to find out what this is. I bought it at an auction this past week. Bought it mainly for the license plate (1950) Indiana. auctioneer didn't know what it was, neither did the guy selling it. They just called it a license plate holder. I'm wondering if it is off a car, truck or tractor? I'm leaning toward a tractor because I got it in a Amish farming community. Thanks for any help you can give me guys.
Well I think that the rectangle thing is a liscence plate and the round thingy used to be a tail light.
I too thought it was a spare tire mount, but didn't know what it might be off of. I wondered if it might be late 20's Chevy?
Similar spare mounts were used on lots of cars...this thing went into the center space of a demountable rim. That's a type of rim that unbolted from the main part of the wheel to change or repair flat...
Spare mount is correct. It's 25 - 28 Chevy...I can't tell the exact year without seeing the mount on the back side.
Thanks to TopDownL79 for narrowing down the choices. I am posting 2 more pictures of the carrier. One of the bottom mounting bolts, and one of the back. Thanks again for your help guys.
