Hello to all so. I had a chance to pick up a all stock Henry J that runs and move's under its power. So i pick up two 1953 ford mainline's one is a running and move's under it power and the other one is a part's car all for the price of one . The guy that i got it from replace the all the brakes and hardware and master! I think if i can make sure the 6 volt wire's are warp good and get the exhaust fix and a good tune up i be driving it. I need a good weekin But it ****'s that i am a trucker that is gone four nights out of the week and only home 1/2 of the day on wen. and 1 1/2 day's on the weekin. here is a link to pics! http://s678.photobucket.com/albums/vv145/john****jr/1953 ford mainline/
My plans are a mild custom. I am going to drop it, big white wall's, og rims, keeping the flat inline 6 in it, my dad has a front grill out of a desoto that he had off the car he owned long time ago i wish he had that car but he is not a car guy like i am.
These cars take to being mild customs pretty well. I think so anyway. Hope you snap and post some pictures soon
Shouldn't have a flat 6 in it, either an overhead valve 6 or the flathead V8, unless someone swapped it in, which would be odd. Good score though and sounds like a good plan for it.
I was wrong it is a overhead engine. so I need to replace radiator, the gas pump, and water pump too. so who is in my neck of the woods with a 1953 or so?
We have three of the p***enger car rebuilt water pumps left on the shelf if you don't find one locally.
ok soi got home by 1pm my time so i wash the hell out of engine and pulled the radiator, water pump today.
Join the 52-59 Ford social group! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=332 Radiator? Not 100% on the 6 cyl cars but 65-68 Mustang radiators are pretty much a direct bolt in and available for well under $200 new. Nice car!
Like this unit http://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-1970-F...Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a188167b9&vxp=mtr should you decide to swap in a 289-302/5.0 later you can use the 1965-69 289 water pump with this radiator.
your switches ought to be no problem. fuel gauge sending unit and all your lamps will need to be 12v. probably should replace your IVR with a later 12v one, from a 57-63 car or truck. i had a '53 that i used an entire Mustang wiring harness in back in Virginia. that was due to PO cutting wires and general age and wear doing the rest. i had a '54 with that engine; they're tough as cut nails.
ok so today i went to the junk yard and got my radiator from a 70 mustang looks great and fit great it was the wrong one for that year good for bad for them! Then i took all the wiring out of a 68 ford f250 so i can use same of it to complete the kit i got from this guy at a swapmeet. I try to get pic's for you guy's soon.
Ok so got a lot of work done front clip off so i can work easier. got all the old wire out it was not worth saving and i could not make out the color code any ways. The three wire alternator mounted in. got the dash out so i can work easier to wire. So on this Sat i am going to start wire the car. Does any one have a 6 volt light switch diagram? i post some pic's as soon as pos.
So this weekend got the old seat out and started the patch work. harder then it looks! but for my first time it does not look bad just need to clean it up. also got the other seat's out of the parts car and wash the mold and dirt off them they look good need some more TLC.
So in Sep i got letter posted on my door. It said that i had to move the car and three car parts out of my drive way or i will get fine. I called and ask why i need to move it out of MY drive way he told me one neighbor call and said it was a eye sore and it is law that it as to move under it's own power to be in a drive way in the city that i am in. I said that is bulls*** because it is in my drive way and not on city road and it is covered. He Just said That if i can get the one in the garage running and move under it's own power i can change the two cars round. I tryed to tell him the one in the drive way it's a parts car so i can biuld the one in the garage over winter. He told me i does not matter just it needs to move under its power I said ok and i said can you tell the person thanks for taking freedom way from someone the love's to do something like this.
so i have been hard at work with the Ford. Got the car wired for 12 volt's all light's working, start's fine. Took in old exhaust in to have new pipe made for 125$ with after market gl***pack ok sound. Then i had a idea for tail light had some caddy taillights and some old 53 ford so i put the two together it looks great love them! So when i had the car running bad so rebuild the 1904 carb, replace the wire's, point's, cond, cap, rotor and time it. the next run want go but the timing chain started to leak bad only when it is running so i decided to open it up. What i found out the chain has about 2in of play! time for new one and gasket kit! The tailight's motor with timing cover off.
So i have been thinking and rebuiling the Ford 215 engine in the car now but some of my friends say i should put a v8 in it. What you guys think. I like both style's of engine. I think it will cost the about the same to rebuild the 215 or fine a V8 that is all ready to just drop in.
rebuild the original engine.....just my take.....going thru the same thing as you right now with my customline...same engine..
So i started to take engine apart and was look at part's as i go. I will not be rebuilding the bottom end and the piston's it all look's good no carbon build up! the head will go to the shop and get check out and claen up for paint. I also decided if i am going this far with the engine i should go ahead and get the frame from the part's car and do the switch. Why i am going to do that is because it is a crestline and mine is a mineline.
