Hi guys, been a while since I posted on here but hoping you can help me out I've had an on off relationship with my A modified project over the years due in the main to the usual ******** that life throws in the way, but now things are definitely on the go again. I managed to score another 346 Cadillac motor after stupidly p***ing on my last one and this is now down at Jim Turnbull's shop on the south coast ( http://www.royalkustoms.co.uk ) getting a much needed rebuild and a general 'warming up'. I'm not planning on going mad with the engine as I'm after reliability rather than outright horsepower, but there's no point not making a few improvements whilst its apart is there? Along with improvements to the inlet and exhaust side of things I'd like to fit a hotter camshaft, and this is where we're coming up blank. Does anyone know where I can get hold of a 'fast road' (Rather than full race) camshaft for this engine? Or does anyone have the specs for a grind so I can get one of my cams ground to suit? We're planning on using adjustable lifters so should be able to take up any 'slack' caused by the reprofiling. Any help would be much appreciated, I'll post some pic's of the build once I have some stuff worth showing you all
Ratty, contact Jim Brierley here on the board. He goes by 4-Port Riley. He has a couple of Winfield grinds that would be perfect for what you are doing, and he is a cl*** act. Oh, and he's BIG into hill climbs- just tell him what you want the engine to do! Solid adjustable lifters are available from Keeper, at his website- www.flatcaddy.com I wanna see a build thread!
Ratty - great to hear the build is moving forwards but what do you mean you're not after "outright horsepower"? Don't you want to win the hillclimb championship? Regards Jon'.
Thanks Buddy, I'll PM him right away. Already well versed in the bits available on FlatCaddy! Hey Jon, how are ya? Think I'd need the sort of HP Buddy's Chevy Coupe's putting out to win on the hills, just enough for some reliable fun will do me, for now anyway
Quick update for you all; I went with a Brierley cam, the 1R grind he offers which is the 'lumpier' of the two he offers. Jim was a pleasure to deal with, took a month or so for him to get the job done as he was moving workshops when I contacted him, but luckily he had a cam core in stock so once he was settled in he supplied pretty quickly. Quality looks good, though I haven't run it yet obviously, and over all I'm really happy so far, highly recommend him, he's a great guy to deal with and price was good too, even the shipping was reasonable from the US for once! So thats a recommend from me
