I got this scoop, aluminum and finned, made by FLA. ROD SHOP INC. Any details on this? Era it was made? Any info on the Florida Rod Shop? It's pretty high quality. Here's some pics: Thanks for any info. I like collecting these parts and any additional stories that go along with them add a little bit of sentimental value. - Mike
Thanks, HRP... I was thinking somewhere in that 60's / 70's era. It's definitely not a flim-flam piece of Trans Dapt ****... it's got some weight to it.
They were a big rod shop in the Palm Harbor, (I think) area of Florida. All of a sudden they disappeared and I think there were some financial issues where a lot of suppliers got burned. At least that is what I heard. But I have never met anyone who actually bought from them, and their catalog had a ton of stuff in it. I still have one somewhere in my stash of old magazines. You name it and they carried it. Don
That's cool. I dig that it actually has some filter protection. But, I wonder if the scope as a whole actually flows decently or seriously hampers it.
I got my oil pan and piston shifter from them around 79, i see a sew on patch floating around my garage from time to time. They had some cool stuff...
Here's a "T" steering wheel that Dad picked this up new the Florida Rod Shop in 1975. As I recall it had about 4" of drop. I would love to find another one but I'm sure they are all gone. I was told a local guy made these for FRS and he only made 6-7 total. Anyone ever come across one drop me a line
I think Don's Rods is correct they were located over near Crystal Beach which is part of Palm Harbor and they also either made or sold all the parts needed to build a T-Bucket back in the late 60's or the 70's I do not know who owned it or anything else about them. I moved to Palm Harbor in 1990 but many of the car club guy's I have met knew all about them and remember right where they were located. Jimbo
I went to the Florida rod shop as a kid. MY dad was a hot rodder and I was hooked from an early age one year while on spring vacation I convinced my dad to take me there. AFter asking some locals how far palm harbor was from where we were staying,we were off. THis was around 75 or so if memory serves I remember the place full of kool ****. I especially recall a pearl white t with purple accents. I heard that several years later they got into financial trouble and pissed off a lot of people. THey were really nice to an eager eleven year old the day I was there though.
