For the past year or so I have had problems getting the car straight in to reverse. it is a 1953 plymouth with hy-drive. If you shifted in to second first then reverse it worked fine no problems. Going straight to reverse caused the gears to grind 25% of the time or so. Nothing major. I checked the clutch throw and linkage, and everything looked good. So I just lived with the problem. Now it has decided that sometimes it likes to pop out of second. Not while driving, but just right after you put it into gear. I had found that if you keep your hand on the shifter until its fully engaged it would be okay. But today when I held the shifter in gear and released the clutch I noticed that the clutch pedal wouldn’t return. When you let the shifter return to natural the clutch would pop back out. So should I look at the clutch, linkage or transmission to start fixing this. Luckily I don’t need second to drive around with the hydrive.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

I would say that the rods are not tight enough for the transmission. I know this is a few years old, did you get it fixed ?
