does anyone out there have patterns or templates for making "hot rod" side motor mounts for a SBC? I am in a distant place with lot of time, 1/4" plate and a welder and not much else.

If they could be emailed that would be appreciated.

    thanks

Ok, Let me add words for those who don't get it. I have NOTHING. No motor, no frame, no project to reference. No reference parts. I have three (3) things only. Time, plate and a welder. I would like to make up some parts for my project to carry home in the duffel bag.

I have bought items from Welder Series and they were excellent, but I've got time, plate and a welder.

And Haji will fight you for the cardboard.

I would think you need a couple of dimensions in order to make motor mounts. Frame width, height of motor in frame, angle of motor in frame, are some of the quickies I come up with. Are you using stock style rubber mouts or donut style? If your motor is mocked up in the frame, can someone there make templates for you? Just trying to help.

You can make them, but the odds are they will not fit when you go to use them. There are simply too many variables and what fits one car may not work on another.

The correct way to make them is to prop up the engine exactly where you want it to sit in the frame, then make up the mounts to fill the gap between the block and the frame rails. I understand your enthusiasm to do something on the car now, but you are going about it b***ackwards. :)

b***ackwards projects are often what keep a guy sane while deployed in the armed forces. build away treb11 hell build me a set I'd proudly hang them on my shop wall. stay safe and sane. and thank you for doing what many won't.

What frame are you planning on putting them in?

Ford Biscuits, Chev mounts like in Mgtstump's post #9 or the tube and bushing ones like in the Welderseries Catalog?

1/4 plate is a little much is it not. 3/16 ths seems to work fine.

treb11... I just read your tag line. "...this bag does not contain platinum, silver or gold, nor is it likely to in the near future. "

    love that episode.

THANK YOU mgtstumpy and 1928chevy coupe ! thats exactly what I need.

I bet somebody needs that Hurst style mount drawing.

Everyone else, I am not building anything earthshatteringly new. a 1940 pickup with a M2 crossmember inn s stock frame. SBC in the middle. I do not know the exact position as you rightly point out, but I can make the motor mounts and make the frame mounts overly long. then trim them to fit when I make the final fitup.

That works. Every one of those installs seems to be just a tad different than the rest so waiting to do the final fitting is probably the best idea.
