So after reading a handful of bill of sale/nj ***le threads I'm still a little confused. I have a fibergl*** T roadster body and was offered an original 27 Model T roadster bill of sale from a friend. Im just trying to figure out what I need to do to register the car once it's road worthy. After reading a few threads it seems like what I need to do is the following:

    1-Signed off transferrable reg.
    2-Notarized bill of sale
3-Picture or pencil rubbing of VIN.

Is this correct? First off I obviously don't have the original VIN tag so am I going to have to make a VIN and do a pencil rubbing of it? Second if I have the previous owner sign the bill of sale as well as myself sign it is that legit enough? Third what is the story behind the signed of transferrable registration?

Any help is greatly appreciated. This is a lot more complicated then I expected lol

Transferable registration usually refers to the registration certicate issued in states where cars were not ***led (until the 70s that is). It is the registration certificate you would have received at the courthouse or DMV when you transferred ownership or renewed your license plates(registration).
In Alabama these had blanks on the back for as many as 6 or so transfers of ownership, thus transferable registration. Last guy on the back had to get a new one when selling the vehicle. Most of the Bills of Sale I got were hand written on paper sacks or cardboard or the backs of envelopes and witnessed by a neighbor or two.

Technically speaking you can't register a fibergl*** T on an aftermarket ch***is with an original T ***le. Making a VIN plate to take a rubbing from is also technically illegal, most states call that "VIN Tampering" or something along those lines. Yeah, sure, it's done all the time, but all it takes is one cop who actually knows a little something about cars and the law and you'll be walking home and calling a lawyer. The only *right* way to do it (in the eyes of the law) is have it registered as an ***embled vehicle which is a pretty big pain. You gotta produce receipts or bills of sale for all the major components, go through a safety inspection, etc and it'll wind up ***led as the year you built it.

If you choose not to jump through the DMV's hoops you're better off not posting on a public forum about it. Just my $.02

As far as I see it I'm not too worried about getting in trouble via a random forum esp being I haven't even done anything about this yet. The handful of people I asked in person have all given me different answers which is making it pretty confusing so in return I figured I'd ask on here and I know for a fact that I'm not the only person talking about this on a public forum. I've read about 8 threads talking about the same exact thing but unfortunately no one has given a clear answer. The DMV around here is a total mess so I'm avoiding calling them yet and just referring to the states website, but thats still a little vague.
