I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the Throttlers Picnic at Johnny Carson Park in Burbank today. It was one of the best gatherings of trad hot rods I have ever seen -- so many you could almost believe that there are too many of them in existence. There were a fair number of HAMBers there, too -- Carlos, Elmo Rodge, DRD57 at least, and hot rod luminaries like Robt Williams and Steve Beck. Here are a few of the cars that were there. I sure won't miss this event in the future!
Great pics of great cars, thanks for sharing! Over here the season is nearly over... rain, fall, 15 celius - so its cool to have have at least some pics of meets to look at whilst my own car is about to be garaged for 5 months of winter. Sucks big time...
I don't have the date for this year's Throttlers Picnic. I'm afraid it's opposite Solvang (Sat Oct 6) which I'm already committed to attend. Anybody know the date? TIA
Yes its Sunday October 7th, 8am-2 pm. Easily the best show of traditional cars. It is amazing what guys will drag out of their garages and drive them once a year just for this show. Jay Leno always shows up in something outrageous too.
I spoke with the gentleman that built this car. And I mean he BUILT it. He is an aluminum car fabricator and he built this to display his talents. He said the front axle was from a model A and he dropped it and narrowed it. I don't remember him saying anything about the drive train or chassis. I assumed that he made the frame himself. He also shortened and narrowed the radiator and grill shell which he said he got off of a 1913. The car is very well done for a hand built vehicle.
