Just bought a car cover to use on my trip to OC Maryland. Got there and and tried to put it on and WAY too small. (It was listed for a Model a 2 door sedan, mine is a 28 chevy, did the measurements and the cars are about the same size) Anyway, I had to use it as I had nothing else. Now I am sure they won't take it back AND they don't have a cover that will fit. Trying not to break the bank with this one. Cover will be basically a dust cover but would like it to repel water also. Anybody have any suggestions? Jim
Bite the bullet and buy one from California Car Cover. They may be a little more expensive but they last and they fit. http://calcarcover.com/
Beverly Hills Motorsports have done all the exhaustive research to guarantee waterproofing, weatherproofing, (indoor and out) breathability, etc. They are not cheap: One color covers are $328+. I'd consider it, (website just google their name) as you check other possibilities. Paint might be worth protecting; (as a former Porsche renovation/service station owner, I can tell you stories about 'premium' covers that peeled factory paint off when removed on 'nice Calif days'!)
Another vote for CA Car Cover. Besieds a top notch product line. The owner is good to all the car guys and is one himself
Jim, You'll probably be able to sell yours to a Model A owner, then go to California Cover. Dad had one made (and he's a thrifty Scotsman) for his '30 Packard 726- sent lots of measurements, and it came out great!
I've had 4 from Ca Car Cover. They all fit perfect, do what they are supposed to, and wear like iron. Well worth a few more bucks.
California Car Covers used to be (don't know of they still are) made by Covercraft in OK but Covercraft also had a showroom less than a block away from California Car Cover in Chatsworth.... www.covercraft.com
I ended up with a generic flannelette lined SUV cover for my 35 phaeton. Fits reasonably well and does the trick. Around $100.00 from memory?
YES!!! Covercraft makes the California Car Covers and a bunch of other ones too. Buy direct from them and save $$$$. In fact there's a guy on here who works for them... Here's a link to my old thread with his info... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=626882
I covered my car that was stored in a shed. No wind, so no tie downs. Come spring, no car cover! My resident ground hogs pulled it completly off the car and down a hole in the wood floor. At least they were warm for the winter.
The material you use is as important as the fit. I use Noah material; it's spendy but does a great job and collects almost no dust.
Ca Car Cover has "Open Box" auctions on Ebay occ***ionally. Normally some Plushweave or Stormweave covers that have been sitting on their shelves awhile or used at trade shows. I usually look up the Dims and see if they will fit an older vehicle. I got a brand new Plushweave that fit my Shoebox for $49.00. A little big but what the Hell.
I bought one that said up to 19' for 18' convertible recently. It didn't even work well with the top down. I need to take it back.
Just talked to them on the phone. Great to talk to. More $ than I wanted to spend but what the hey. Will prob go that way. thanks jim
Interesting enough I just got off the phone with John,,a great guy and very knowledgeable about his profession. He saved me about a hundred bucks on the exact same thing California Car Cover quoted.HRP
We have had 3 CA Car covers in our family for 1931 Tudor, fenderless, chopped, and they all fit perfect. I was really happy with the cover. I need to get one for my 1952 Lincoln but i am scared to ask the price!!!!
Hey, I just spoke to John also. Great guy and a great price, I do believe my Lincoln is getting a good fitting cover this season!!!
walmart has water repelant car covers. i bought one for when my car would sit out overnight at the drag strip and it has held up just fine for being a cheap cover that gets used only when its raining.
LOL... Sometimes these old threads are buried treasure!! Glad he was able to help you out and get some business from it.
They may make the covers Cal. Car Covers but they aren't the same. I bought one for my 57' Vette from Covercraft and it didn't fit right. I think there's are cheaper because they may use more generic dims. that cover a wide range of cars. Sent it back and bought the Cal. cover one and fits like a glove !!! Money well spent.
Ironic this post showed up. FYI for all of you: As a gift I was given a California Car Cover for my 1931 Model A Coupe. It is a hot rod, chopped and is obviously not the same dimensions as a stock Model A. When I put the cover on my car it clearly did not fit well. I called Cal. Car Cover, they told me to take photos of my car and write the dimensions of my car on the photos. I sent the car cover, photos and dimensions to them yesterday. They are going to custom tailor my cover (for free) to fit my car based off the photos and dimensions. They said it should take about 2 weeks. Sooo, for those of you in my shoes, they will custom tailor a cover for your car at no additional charge. Weerd!
You are probably right,,the cover doesn't fit like I think it should and does have enough room to fit several different applications,,It does however repel rain,,so I guess I got what I paid for even with a poor fit. HRP
