I have used '39 pickup springs, '54 pickup axle (stubs included), '53 car brakes including drums. The springs have been rearched slightly with the axle placed on top. I have 3 1/2" clearance to the frame at ride height. The car is a '29 Chev running a 429 Cadillac. The front tyres are 25 1/2"od. I have spring shackles that are 3" c-c and run 6 deg caster. With just the rims, I have approx 3/4" clearance to the road. I'm also running a panhard bar. I've used this setup on several Chevs over the years and it works well.

Volvo 200 and 700 series cars are with front McPherson struts, so not suitable for this kind of build.

But a 144,145 etc, has a bolt attached front suspension that new crossmembers are made for. I think www.swedespeed.com makes parts or has links. , [IMG] , Swede Speed , [IMG]

Also try traction underride bars similar to old shelby mustangs.

Make a set from a pair of old compression struts from a ford front end [ you can adjust the pressure on the rubbers to control wrap up only.]

here is a mustang set up . but the general principle is the same at both ends

First I thinked about adding the traction bar. But on the front axle, there are not so much space to add it.

At the moment the leafs and bushings are like this. The rear snubber's fitting is factory original. I think that this is the confirmation of snubber. I'll let you know later how this system works.

Ok, I have traveled 2000 miles with it.. and I did put the one leaf upside down to pack. Now the leaf-pack is kind a stiff. Must be careful with road holes. But fortunately have no problems with braking or spring wrap that i was afraid.
Comfort and convenience are the largest set of expected anyway.

But. I plan to take it apart again and re-***embly. It gives more space to move again and a taildragger look also :)

How about adding an anti-tramp bar from the axle to the frame?

It's not so simple to do that. It is easy to to with rear axle. In front - the axle is under the leafs.
    But it's not neseccary anymore.
I put majority of leafs back, so I got enough thickness to brake. I just reverse one leaf in pack and it gave to me 2" lower front. but its too stiff to bounce.
