    ey all,
please forgive if this is an idiotic question but i am swapping my stock carb to an edelbrock 500. got everything installed except that i have a rod actuated throttle linkage and i believe i need a cable one for the new carb. is this correct? can i simply swap a regular cable to the pedal or do i need to do some other hunting?

thanks for any help. its a 63 c10 283 with 4 speed trans on floor.

  2. The carb doesn't care if it is cable actuated or opened by a rod.

  3. Does the rod push ( as in move towards the grill) when you press the accelerator ?
If so then you need to make a little doo- hicky on the throttle arm so you can attach it on the bottom and keep the ratio liveable.

If you decide to go with a cable, check out the Lokar stuff. They make a nice universal setup and a bracket that mounts to the rear carb stud that aligns the cable pull with the carb ball stud. Ataching the other end to the gas pedal is straight forward.

There are lots of junkyard cables that adapt if you want to spend the time looking under hoods at the local Pick & Pull.

  5. without looking at any pictures , my guess would be is all you would have to do is lengthen the rod

  7. The rod pulls.

    Neverwinter,
If you are deadset on using a cable the fox body mustang has a pretty easliy adaptable unit that you can bolt to your firewall.

It's been awhile but I seem to remember a small pack of parts that came with mine, all in a small plastic bag. One of the items was a small "ball stud" that mounted to a hole in the linkage. The rod snapped onto that. Maybe they don't include that anymore, but perhaps they offer it as an accessory pack. I would look in the bottom of the box first.

You can buy a throttle cable kit right off the shelf that will fit the Edelbrock at your local mega generic parts store. It's cheap and it looks good. The pic doesn't show the bracket that mounts to the carb, but it will be there in the kit.

You can waist your time trying to retro fit something from the junkyard, but I value my time more than that for a mere $25.

i just put a edelbrock on a 283 and im using a rod.******s right the carb dont care.do you still have the rod. if you do just put it up to the carb and see if the lengh is right if not adjust accordingly.i drilled a small hole in the on the carb to hook mine up. right now i dont remember why i had to but i did.it works great.

i am thinking i may just need to drill out the hole in the carb bracket to make it a tad bigger for the stock rod to fit thru. i can then drill a hole in the rod end and put a circlip or somehing thru it to keep it from backing out. the adjust the traavel of the rod? seem to make sense? then just need to get a strong return spring.
