Im using a F-100 box.I still have some clean up and a few small reinforcments to put in but Its pretty much done. I have to locate the steering arm hole and have the steering shaft lengthened. This is my first time intstalling cowl steering
Looking good, wanted to do that to mine, but didn't. any chances you have the bracket that holds the cowl vent open laying around??? need one for mine
Lookin real good. You'll probably want to attach the tubing to the door post at the top with some bracing. You won't believe how much force you'll get on the box way up there and how much it wants to flex the mounting frame you built. I ended up adding more once I hooked up the drag link and turned the wheel.
Good point Thanks Ill definatly do that. I figured I would get some fklex with the box that far away from the frame.... Sorry man but but i plan on putting all that back in... Thanks guys...
Looks really good! You've done a nice job with the cab reinforcements, but I would definitely recommend taking the advice on bracing the box. I have a chopped and channelled '36 Chev truck with cowl steering and it puts a ton of outward force on the steering shaft. The box actually wants to open up! I am in the process of designing new braces for it because what I have just isn't working. I way underestimated the stresses of steering. With this setup, I almost can't turn the wheel while the car is stationary. I hate it, but DAMN it looks cool!!
Yes I do plan on some more reinforcements. I posted it to get some feedback. This all helps alot... The plan is to take to stock steering shaft and have my local machine shop lengthen it for me...... again thanks EVERYONE!!!
looks alot better than trying to mount is further to the side. I plan on using a toyota pickup power steering box, these work in place of the f100 box to convert to p/s. Gary
