I have looked all over and it is hard to find some .......So if you could please post any pics you have of g***er roadsters....i am thinking of building one and need a little inspiration...thanks alot
There actually weren't any roadster g***ers (against the rules). The cl*** for roadsters was called Street Roadster (/SR). Pretty close to the same rules. Larry T
Thanks Larry! I saw this thread and was about to bang my head against the wall. I wish the younger guys would read a little history once in a while...
I am also a young rodder ,20, and I have to respectfully agree to a extent. There are alot of older guys that are too bussy saying that the younger generation dosent want to learn than actualy teaching us. There are alot of worthless people in our genaration but as are any, but there are alot of us willing to learn. Larry you are not one of them, thanks for posting the info for us youngins. Dont want to start drama sorry for the little rant, so lets see some Street Roadsters...

Wow, cool thread. I think I will have enough screen savers to last until next year now. Thanks for posting
With an at***ude like this you won't last long here and that would be too bad. This is a great forum. It's devoid of keyboard heros and all the interpersonal **** and random **** threads you find in many others. It focuses on traditional hot rodding and 60's style racing. Some of the folks who contribute have been there and done more than I or you will ever dream of doing. The tech support and general support for your efforts is awesome. You may want to stow the at***ude and pay attention. This forum has it's rules and it's guidelines and throwing insults at specific folks or bashing an age group is the best way to get the boot from here. Show a little character and maturity and be part of the community. You might just learn something and be better for it. Or keep bashing and get booted. If you choose the later, no-one will miss you.
i don't mean to be contrary but, there were g***er roadsters toward the end of the g***er wars in 1968. Hugh Tuckers comes to mind so does Gary Burgen. this info is in Don Montgomery's surpercharged gas coupe book. in truth, they were just the blown street roadster and nhra just moved them into the gas cl***'.
OK, the blown SRs got lumped into AA/GS or BB/GS toward the end. Unfortunately, I think that both blower cl***es were starting to die off by then, so they combined the cl***es. So if you're talking about 1968 or later, with a supercharger then your street roadster could be called a g***er. There were still A/SR and B/SR cl***es through at least 1973 for the the non-supercharged cars though. Larry T
Towards the end a lot of the fastest and biggest names in g***er history became match racers. They pushed the envelope so far that NHRA wouldn't let them run in any gas cl***, so all sorts of vehicles ran heads up against each other for a winner take all purse. Usually that was $500, which was a lot of money in the late 60's-early 70's period.
Around 68 was the beginning of the end for AA/GS. Most of the heavy hitters were changing to late model cars (Mustangs & Barracudas come to mind). And as a result, they just looked like slow Funnycars. A lot of the big names switched to Funnycar a little later on and gutted the cl*** (I believe NHRA dropped the cl*** in 1976, maybe?). So you had two similar cl***es that were dieing (you could probably count the number on blown street roadsters on your hands and feet) that got lumped together. And the matchracing probably didn't help the cl*** legal cars either. Since the cars didn't have to meet NHRA/AHRA/IHRA rules they just got more and more radical. There was a "G***er ***ociation" in the midwest that ran center steer and Nitro. Really diluted the essence of the cl***. JMO Larry T
The roadsters of Gary Densham, Braskett & Burgin, Brian Raines et al were the by-product of a regional heads up circuit (read So-Cal) that didnt really care what the NHRA defined a gas coupe was. If you ever see pictures of one of these "roadsters" making a rare appearance at a NHRA major event, they were cl***ified as a BB/Altered as they usually featured center driver, 25% engine set back and sometimes no fenders.
btt...would like some picks of g***er roadsters running on the street....i have seen a few out there...
