When i get my roadster up and running how can i get it titled? We have gotten titles from alabama before from a company but the cars had a VIN number. I dont have a VIN in the 28 ford body and was wondering if i need to title it as a homebuilt. Is there a way to get a VIN or use the VIN of the donor car i got teh engine out of or am i just screwed?
What was the donor car? Hell if you can even find anything close use it. I would check the local junk yards for some misc paperwork man!
Don't know about Tenn. but in Ar. they go by the vin on the frame on anything pre 55. Post 55 goes by the body tag (which should be the same # as on the frame), but if you subframe your 54 chevy then you need the title for the car that subframe came out of (as an example). If you had the title for the donor car I'd just stamp that # into the frame and have them change the description on the title, at worst you'll have to get a vin inspection report from your state pd, but at least you'll get a title.
As A Member Of The County Police Told Me ......"i Can't See The Number There On The Frame......but I Think I Will See The It When I Come Back ......" Make Up A Fictious Number ....stamp It....and Apply From There.....in Ky They Have A Application For A Ky Issued Number.....going Thru This Right Now On My Model A.......you Apply ....give Reciepts For Parts You Had To Replace....a Bill Of Sale On The The Car.....a Notorized Statement On Why It Doesn't Have Paperwork.....they Issue You A Ky State Vin Tag....the Sheriff Inspects The Car ....you Return The Inspection Papers With A Vtr.....if Approved You Get A Memorandum That You Take To The Court House And Transfer .....title Shows Up In A Couple Weeks......will Let Ya Know How Tomorrow Goes At The State Office....hahah Brandon
Whats the best way to go about this in CA? Im in a similar situation. I started with a 30 Dodge body and am building a frame from scratch. Should I just make up a VIN and stamp it on the frame and say the title was lost?
The way we do it here in Okie land...if you have a good title on your donor car...transfer/stamp the #'s into your frame on the driver's side just in front of the firewall. ID numbers are verified by clerks working at a tag agency here. The last one that verified (34 Ford coupe) a number for me was a cute little thing about 20...she didn't even know what kind of car it was...let alone what the number was suppose to look like. As long as the number matches the title here you are good to go. Good luck
My frame is custom built and the body has no VIN. The engine donor is a 1980 chevy luv and the rear came out of a blazer. Thanks Hellbilly for the info, hopefully i can get it done that way.
Alabama is very lax on anything pre 75. All I need is a bill of sale does not have to be notorized and make up a serial no.
Try to buy a title (or registration in NY) with a vin # and correct body style. Stamp vin on title/registration on frame. In NJ all we need is a tracing of the VIN for the DMV.
This may be a stupic question, but how many number/letters is the VIN on a 28 ford. I wil get with you Bobby about helping me with this as soon as its close to being done.
