Seems as though the HAMB has a tremendous record for knowledge.

Here's what I know........A good customer dropped this on my desk a few years ago. It wasn't very shiny, and had no color on it. Customers family had been in the foundry business in Chicago from probably 1930's. They did a lot of municipal contracts (police call boxes, etc.) and of course, most likely had many different walk in clients.

Customer was cleaning out some old desks, and this topper was buried under a bunch of stuff. He remembered that I had a curio cabinet in my waiting room (with "stuff") and thought This should be added to my "stuff".
He knew zero history about it. He started working in the family business in 1950's and had never seen this piece or anything like it.

About a week ago, I was sorting my "stuff" and decided to clean the topper up, maybe paint a patriotic theme, make a bracket, and bolt it on the bumper of my 37 Ford. I think the colors "red-white & blue" go well with the eagle. Has anyone ever seen another, or know more about it?

    Thanks in advance. Stu

p.s. Kind of concerned about someone stealing it off the car, but I suppose I can secure it pretty safely.

I've seen a lot of toppers but none like yours, have your customer pour a few more, it's a great design, maybe sell here on the HAMB? WWII era maybe?

  7. i was thinking WWII also because of the design and the patriotic theme , but i doubt they would use that aluminum on a civilian vehicle while there are airplanes to make

Seems like one of the bigger club plaque manufacturers was located in Chicago back in the day. The name escapes me, but seems like it was one of the ones Dennis O'Brien purchased all the patterns and rights from years ago. I may be totally wrong, but if you pm Dennis he might could help. He's on here as 59BuickWagon.............................Chicago Metal Craft. Think that's the name. Brain's a little slow.

we have a local aluminum foundry who has poured some items for my cars and if a mould was made, I am sure he would pour up as many as we needed--any thought as to that? western SC

Chicago Metal Craft was located in Port Chicago, California. ;)

  14. It's a veteran memorial flag holder. World War II era. I've seen a lot,
mostly cast in bronze, in cemeteries. It does make a neat tag topper.

You win!!! I almost thought you were being a smart ***, but I sincerely apologize. Mr Muttley, you sir have made my day. Since I served in the military and have an Honorable Discharge, (though not WW II) I will wear it proudly on the left front of the 37. Stu
