I ordered new metal sash channels from Chevs of the 40s and had to weld my old brackets onto them to make them work. They sent me some of their 4082810 setting rubber. It does not fit the channel or the gl***. The rubber seems to be made for thinner gl*** and it does not have enough bulk to stay seated in the metal channel. Obviously, something is wrong here. Can anyone tell me what I really need?
Im not sure about a 54 but on a 55 the gl*** setting rubber is really tight, I usually set the gl*** on a thick blanket and put the rubber on the gl*** and then windex on the outside of the rubber and use a rubber hammer to tap the channel on the rubber. That seats it on the gl*** and is done.....good luck
can you post some pics? they are usually tuff to get in. i have had them want to slip out once installed. sometimes i've just waited until the "lube" drys, and they'll stay put. other times i've used weather strip adhisive to make them stay in place.
i recently done my lincoln, got setting tap at local gl*** co. 2 different thickness, you may have to try that. good luck
Pinch the channel together a little more than you need for the gl*** to hold then do as the others suggested. The setting tape is a better method. Lota times the rubber will let go. You can use electrical tape to hold the setting tape in place the trim all with a razor blade after you get itin place.
