So I bought these headlight stands and I cant figure out the best way to mount them. I figured they were set up with a stud or something, but nothing. Any ideas on mounting these on my 2x3 boxed frame? Thanks. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Ribbed-Aluminum-Headlight-Brackets-Polished,2324.html
Wow, no mount holes or anything! as much as i hate to say it i would venture to say you need to locate them on your frame then drill index holes, then drill and tap the frame JMHO! P.S. what are you building? i am in Cheney! 27 T Tudor.
I had a set identical to that on my T in 1973 and I couldn't figure out a neat clean way to mount them. I think some stainless button head machine screws about 1/4 inch or 5/16 and nuts that were installed flush in the frame would work best. Those things have probably given rodders as many "ah hell" moments as any other single aftermarket part ever sold. Originally I'd have to believe that they intended for the car builder to drill and tap the mounts for blind holes that didn't show through the other side and use studs and nuts. Possibly only fastening them to the top of the frame rail.
Thanks guys, I didnt really want to drill into them but I think it's about the only option. It's for a '31 A roadster. Unfortunately I'm not in Washington anymore, I still have my house in Cheney though. I had move to Albuquerque, but cant wait to get back!
Drill one or two holes on each end at the bottom. Place them on the frame in the desired location . You can C clamp them temporarily while checking them out. Sharpie marker in the holes of the stands marking the top and sides if frame Drill holes in frame Tap holes or weld in T nuts Install stands
Just lay out some holes and drill the stands, transfer the hole locations to the frame, drill and tap the frame, and you're good to go. If you have 3/16" rails 5/16-24 works good, if you have 11 ga rails 1/4-28 would be little better. Just don't mount them ahead of the radiator shell, headlights on this type of stand don't look right that way.
