I posted this question before and got quite a few excellent answers! I had another thought, though. Since my quarter panels are swiss cheese, could I possibly melt some lead on this panel to fill up the holes? I have the same issue with the top half of my cowl also.
The heat may warp the panel. Masking tape the top side and maybe try the por 15 paste, to build up the bottom side. Or lab metal. It looks pretty thin.
It would be at best a botch job, that section is pretty far gone... That wouldn't be too hard to make a patch panel for, and you'd have added a skill you'll always have (and use over & over) Could be done with hand tools you likely have already - welding it in would be the biggest learning curve. My 2c yea it'll work.... not right, like said, but do what ya gotta, as for cowl top, get anouther, my last one i paid $20 for at a swap meet so i could stip the vent door.....
I use lead quite a bit and while this is a tempting try, i'd argue against it. There is too much corrosion down in those little pits, lead don't work unless you have very, very clean metal. It just won't bond over the entire surface.
It looks like it has already been blasted anyhow. I've got the same issues with the left rear quarterwindow area on my 31 Vic and the only fix I can see is cutting out the bad areas and replacing them.
Find someone with a Spray Welder. That process would take care of your Swiss Cheese right away. VR&C.
That's what came to my mind... I know those guys spray that galvanized stuff I think it is? Kinda thick or something.
Hey that works sometimes. Slit my forhead open and really needed s***ches. Cleaned the would really good, put some super glue on it, pulled it tight with a bandaid and it healed perfectly. No scaring. If I had went for s***ches I'd need a zipper tattoo to cover it. Yuck it up all you want but I got the idea from watching some stupid high dollar plastic surgeon show. if I really didn't care a whole lot about it id try All metal or lab metal on the back side after you shape the metal back. Then some on top. Both are really good stuff. If you want to do it right - it needs to be replaced If you need ideas on how to really **** it up , have a look at the bondo abuse thread.
