I have been looking for a 48-54 suburban project well I found one that was said to be a 53 suburban... however the windows do not look correct. 4 on each side I am thinking this was a panel with custom windows. What are your thoughts?

that is definitely not a suburban. It's a panel. And it looks like the 1 ton version, does it say 3800 on it somewhere?

Yup, not a 'burb. A lot of folks seemed to do the wierd-window thing back in the day. I know that the US Forset Service special-ordered odd windows in the back of some tri-five Chevy Sedan-Deliveries, at least the one I saw in person. Not a stretch to think they did it in panels too. I might be one of those, or something completely aftermarket...

yep a panel conversion. windows are flush compared to inset like it would be on a burb.

It's a panel truck, why would it have original suburban seats in it?

Looks decent for a 1953 one ton panel truck. Fix it up and sell or trade for a real suburban. Or enjoy it.

In case someone was trying to p*** it off as a suburban and i have been noticing that the 3rd seat is almost as rare as the henway coupe

Well they are trying to p*** it off as a suburban but the price is still ok. I'll try to knock a few hundred off and see what is said. I don't think they know what it is and are guessing at it. No seats in it, but a running 350 and it drives, per seller. I was originally looking for a panel, I guess I found one.

There's a lot more "activity" and info. on those 1948-55 Suburbans over on another forum, if you're just getting started with them.

    www.stovebolt.com

Go to Forums and go the the, "Panels & 'Burbs" section.

I have even seen a couple of people with that exact same period conversion you're looking at.

So you should be able to find a little history as to which coach builder might have built it, etc. on that site.
Those were supposedly intended as school busses, and had different seats than the regular Suburbans.
So you are not missing the rare seats...it didn't have that type anyway.

Good luck - they are fun.
