about anything is doable but i think it would be a tight fit and possibly a lot of h***le.I had a sbc (oh the horror) in a 51 and it was pretty tight as far as length of the motor compared to firewall/radiator .Of course you can always cut as much of the firewall as you want out shove it however far back and go.The downside is making the hole is way easier then filling it as needed around chosen motor.

This is a 460 in a 49 Merc. Kicked the upper firewall back, other than that, easy fit. Should be nearly the same....OLDBEET

Don't know about a 460, but a 302 slid right in like it was made for it. No problems...

Stock front sump pan, the engine sits a little high, but does not interfer with brakes or steering or exhuast. (stock manifolds) Had to fab the tunnel to clear the C-6. Has dual ele. fans on back side of stock radiator.......OLDBEET

30 or so years age, my brother put a Boss 429 in his 49 Ford coupe. I don't remember any details, but Ch***is Engineering in West Branch Iowa did some of the fabrication and installation. So it can be done.

I am trying to do this very same thing in a '50 Merc. How does the motor mount on the driver's side where the gearbox and master cylinder go?

It didn't happen to be a purple 53 in Alberta by chance? I built a 460 powerd 53 4 door way back in highschool and every once and a while i see a pic of it from a car show. Always wondering where it is...
