Those things are notorious for doing that. not much you can do but rebuild it with new gaskets

  3. Where's it leaking from? Shaft/top plate????

It's leaking by the shaft. I replaced gaskets twice. At the end of the month I plan on putting on a Fenton intake manifold, and Fenton headers with a dual carb set up. Does anybody know which carbs to go with? I am tired of the leakin

  7. "by the shaft" or from it? not being an ass,but if it's coming from the shaft, well, kinda answers itself. The baseplate gasket is far enough away to tell, and "you replaced those?"
New carbs on your new set-up,or using your existing one as part of the set-up?

Like ems said try lowering the float level, maybe by a 1/16 at a time. How does the carb perform? Besides the leaking issue.

Leaking through shaft sorry, about that and no I want to buy two different ones, I saw in speedway 9super7 not sure if the would work or fit the Fenton intake manifold?

  10. A badly worn base can do it, so can a high float, I like float suggestion in post #8. Also if the sections are loose, that can do it too. Grab the carb at the top and give it a twist.

I might be wrong, but I think the super 97s are two barrels? I know of a guy that ran dual r1 monojets and they worked well.

Drop the float level down some. I assume it leaks when you shut the motor off & it sits a while? Engine heat & trapped line pressure may be forcicing gas past the float valve. That overfills it, & it drips down & hits the throttle plate/shaft. Runs to the end & leaks out. IF you want a replacement carb, I would look for a Carter YF model.

Not much you can do because the base has worn to the point it leaks fuel past the throttle shaft. I looked for a kit to fix the one barrel Rochesters I had and there are none. A four barrel Rochester shaft repair kit could probably adapted, but in the end it might be cheaper to buy a reproduction.

the car runs great, i went to the low side of the spec's but still in factory range.

if the shaft is leaking it has to be rebushed

Your carb is OK and a lot of people like them but I'd just as soon use them for target practice. I used an adapter from Langdons intended for a 4 bolt Holley 2bbl. It conveniently has a boss added that matches up to Holley 94 (or Stromberg 97).
I rebuilt a 94 and found my carb troubles disappeared. A significant increase power and..best of all... MPG went from 10 or less up to 18-20.

It's on a stock 261 (other than headers) in my '51 pickup.
I just got back from an 880 mile road trip and averaged 18mpg with absolutely no trouble climbing hills or pulling grades or passing cars when necessary.

Disclaimer.... Before changing carbs I tried...for two years...to make the old 1bbl work... Several different carbs from the original up to a NOS heat riser choke model....all with the same results...
I have a bucket full of 'me now....

I think this might be a viable option for you. Even with a two carb set up.
Try reading some articles on the Inliners International website.
Also, Langdon has a nice article on Jim Carter Chevy Parts website that talks about Rochester 1bbl carbs and why they are tough to make work correctly over the whole power range.
