I need some education an the v8-60. I have a couple of regular late model flatheads, but know nothing about its smaller sister. Are any of the parts interchangable? Will the trans off the big engine fit the smaller and is the trans adapter the same, or does it have a built in bellhousing. Are they reliable if built correctly? Are there intakes for duel carbs etc? Many parts available? I am looking at a small belly tank on HAMB which would need to be set up for a v8-60 so info info from you flathead guys would be helpful. Thanks for your time on this.
They have a built in bellhousing, just like a 32-48 flattie, but the positioning of the starter causes issues with bolting a '39 box straight up. Now the tranny CAN be modified to fit with a simple knotch tho. Parts arent very interchangeable on the motor itself, i belive only carbs interchange, and the 60 came stock with a smaller one. They are fine reliable motors, but come up pretty short on power even after a good build, as for parts, stuff is avalible new(pricey) and used stuff is out there too if you know where to look. There is even a company out there that builds 3 carb intakes for them currently...
The book " V8 60 Ford's Little Powerhouse" by Richard Willim helped me alot. Here is a link. http://willimvintageengines.com/ Gary in MN
