I'm no rich guy but I have this little dream of doing something nice for my old school teacher and his auto/diesel program so I figure it can't hurt to ask.

I'm wondering if there are any Vintage Flip Top and/or FED owners out there near the Tri-Cities, WA (i.e. Kennewick, Pasco, Richland) area willing to donate a little "cackle" time for the diesel/auto program at the Tri-Tech Skills Center in Kennewick, WA (http://www.ksd.org/tritech/). I'm willing to chip in for gas and buy some lunch for anyone willing to show up. Lin, the instructor teaching the Diesel/Auto program, has been teaching kids now for 30years. I went through his first cl*** in '82-'83. He is a fine instructor, driver, racer, and all around knowledgeable car guy. :D He will be retiring in the next couple years so I figured I better get off my **** and start asking rather than just thinking about it. ;)

PLEASE! I don't want to hear how stupid this idea is. If you think it is make your own special posting about how stupid this is. If you have any constructive suggestion please feel free to post here.

    Thank you! :)

i know you said not to say how stupid the idea is and all, but i can't help myself.

    First off i feel that "cacklefest/cackling" = ************

i'm not saying don't get cars to come and run the engines, but why not go further? Have some/one of the participants put on seminars describing exactly how the rear axle is attached to the frame. How is the frame constructed. Explain the front suspension and how is it attached to the frame. The build up of the engine etc.

Just displaying and/or making noise is pointless and simplistic to me.

I don't think it's stupid at all, wish I was closer as I would bring out my old K-88 FED and sit him in it and let him fire it up. It's not a old top fuel car, it's what I ran when I got out of the service in the late'70s in A/ER cl***, you still get the vib just sitting in and firing it up. Good luck on your idea I'm sure someone from the HAMB will come through with some thing.

Thanks for the encouragement. I wish you could show up!

It's just a little dream for someone that gave me one of my major p***ions and devoted 30years of his life to teaching young people how to work on automobiles and diesel equipment. I say it can't hurt to ask. :)

You didn't say what type of racer he was, but if you could get a bunch of his old students together and each kick in some dough get him a ticket to Frank Hawleys for a day of racing, most fun you can have and not own your own rail.....................

That would be COOL! I don't know how the vocational school would feel about it though. It is something to consider, thanks for the idea. ;) :)

Try getting a hold of diesel instructor Jim Dillinger at Lower Columbia College. He runs a blown alcohol FED.

Just an FYI on my expectations/reality of what I'm asking. I had someone on another site point out the cost to me. I didn't say, "No duh!" but I would like to make it clear that I can't afford it and I'm VERY sensitive to the cost of this whole thing. I know what things cost and there is no way I can pay for their time. I could pay for a couple hundred bucks in fuel for one car and some lunch for that person and their crew but not $100/min, well, for no more than a couple minutes anyway. Who ever does this would have to want to do it because the want to keep young people interested in the sport NOT because I can pay them, there's no way. I don't truly expect anyone to step up to the plate. I'm asking and that is all there is to it. Really, I'm asking would someone like to come show off for some young people and get them excited about the sport and included in that would be honoring this man that has been teaching for 30years. I do realize that you people don't know him. I love to show off my car and I can tell you they love seeing me do it! I remember what it was like and I get the same thrill I did when I cruised Columbia Park and burnt the hides off in front of everyone when I was their age. lol I've let those kids work on my car, I've donated money and time to the school... It is all relative and of course there's ALWAYS a cost to benefit ratio. I'd like to see if theres someone that just wants to drag their car out and make a bunch of young people flip their lids for the hell of it. Crazy, I know...

"And When I Die" - Blood, Sweat & Tears

    ...and when I die,
When I'm dead, dead and gone,
There'll be one child born in our world to carry on,
    To carry on.

    Great music!
