Saw this online...just wondering what it's main function was? It says it is an Offy 360 for a sbc......
Looks like a variation on the Smokey Ram,which I think was put out by Edelbrock. They were trying to get longer runners without going to a typical tunnel ram. Wet flow is a seious problem with a single carb. But they look cool. And making a lid to hold a bunch of 2 barrels would be easy enough.
Root'-weren't those ol intakes meant to increase low/midrange tourque/[IE-longer runner effect-plus more equalization]
I've seen them before(or very close to it)..not many though. The one's i've seen had a cross ram dual quad plate on top. Could possibly be for Trans Am type racing. Might have been a way for competitors to change classes easily. the few i've seen over the years have been on street cars though. Rat.....
Hey, I remember this from the PAW catalog! I went and looked and it is called the "SBC Low Profile Ram Intake Manifold" and you could get three different tops for it: single quad, dual quad, and triple Weber carbs. The base part of the manifold was $237, the single- and dual-four barrel tops were $107 and the Weber top was $131. This is from the Fall '97 catalog (the newest one I have from PAW!).
The catalog copy says "Hundreds of hours of dyno testing have proven that Offenhauser low profile ram manifold is designed to suit your particular needs. Would you believe 50 HORSEPOWER more than a single quad high rise with single quad low profile. That is a fact with a smooth performance that makes your engine respond equally well on the street as on the drag strip. No flat spots from low rpm to extreme top end. Remember! The 3 tops will fit the same base." If you look at the top plate as a letter "Z", the dual quad setup has the carbs setting in the middle of the top and bottom legs of the "Z" offset from each other. There is a special linkage sold to run these carbs (it says for Carter or Holley carbs). It looks like the four-barrel top plates are drilled for two different bolt patterns. Anyway, hope this info helps...
